My dad's '03 2500 has aparantly killed another ficm. each time the truck died and left him stranded somewhere, and the truck was towed to the dealership. there is no warning, just boom dead while driving down the road. will not start back up afterwards, since none of the injectors are firing. the last round they replaced all injectors along with a new $1200 FICM, and we were confident that should have taken care of the problem. 14k miles later (today) it left him stranded again. this is about the most babied truck you can imagine... all stock, never had a tune, always ran the suggested additives in the fuel, changes oil and filters religiously. he bought it new and its only been touched by dealerships.

do you guys know of any other common things that could kill a ficm? i have efi-live for my LBZ truck, but i cant remember if i can plug into his truck with it to scan for codes...?

yes, your efi live can scan (and clear) the codes on his truck. It can even tune it if you have a license available or if you want to purchase an additional license for $100.

AS to your dad's continued issues. It sure seems odd. I'd probably lean towards some faulty wiring to the ficm frying it in such short order but IDK how or what exactly could be causing that. Are they saying exactly how it has failed? i.e. "burnt up" or melted parts internal or what?
