Mike, you have any experience with the 4T65E? A freind of mine has a 2005 Impala, and said it has been randomly flairing the 1-2. I checked the PCM for codes, and found a P1811. I found a TSB for 99-2000 range vehicles regarding debris causig the PCS to bind up, but nothing specific for this year. Are there any common failures that would cause the flaired 1-2 & P1811?

P1811 is a Max Adapt code, which basically means the PCM has the PCS maxed out.

Now, I AM NOT AN EXPERT when it comes to the T65, but on L60's the constant stroking of the PCS spool wears the VB to the point that accurate pressure control is lost. If you have the tools, sonnax sells a kit to fix it, but most guys who don't build trannys for a living simply replace the VB with a quality reman unit.

As far as "debris" causing an issue, any debris in there is likely wear material from the spool and VB. You could try disassembling it and cleaning it to see if that solves the problem. doesn't really cost anything but time and a bit of ATF...
