I think. My son has a 2003, 1500 with a 5.3. He is telling me nobody can get him a drain plug for his trans pan. Is there something special about it

Ya, I didn't think mine had a plug but then again I never was under my 1/2 ton too much. Mr. Gasket makes a weld-in plug kit don't they ?

I don`t recall the size, but the drain plugs are available from the dealer. However, many dealers do not keep a plug in stock. When/if you find a replacement, use care in installing it, since it`s aluminum, and that`s why the heads round off so easily. Ask me how I know. Both of my 4L80E`s and my 4L60E had the plug, and I used a crisp fitting 6 point socket with air impact to remove them the first time.

Aluminum  We welded a larger nut to it and took it out. I had ordered 2 drain plugs from the Allison dealer earlier this week. They are the same plugs

I stand corrected....they indeed are steel. I honestly just figured since they rounded off so easily that they were aluminum. Must be the taper on the bolt head shoulder that allows them to round off so easily. Anyway...steel they are.
