Hey Guys, i am looking to buy this lift and i am just wondering if working on chevy's is similar to jeeps. My buddy put the lift on his unibody, he just torqued it all down till the gun near ran out. Can i do the same with the chevy suspension or will it make my truck suffer? Reason i ask is his jeep is work about 1/6 of my truck....lol. Just trying to decide if its cheaper for my to buy a couple tools i dont have/would need to upgrade and a service manual($250 BUCKS!!!!!!!) OR pay someone to do it....thanks!

Wile I haven't done much on the unibodies, I can attest that my 2500 HD and my TJ are far apart. The Jeep suspension is far more forgiving to the shade tree worker. Keep in mind, a great deal of the front end on most jeeps still in production can interchange parts from 70's models. I wouldn't go the cheap rout with the IFS system.

I lifted my truck in the driveway while rebuilding the front end (bushing, idler, pitman, tierods, etc) at the same time. There is a video on youtube of a guy lifting his dmax. Pretty straight forward honestly.

I put a 4-6" Cognito on my truck last Winter. First lift I put on and one of the bigger projects I have taken on. Also did the whole thing myself.

Hardest part is getting the diff back up after you put the new mounting bracket on top and some of the skid plate bolts are time consuming to completely thread.

I have lifted a few of these trucks and you can easily do it by yourself. You will need an impact, pry bars, torque wrench, sawzall, torsion bar tool (or big ass C clamp) and basic hand tools. If you don't have a ball joint pulled you can just put a pry bar between the spindle and control arm, pry on it really hard and smack the side of the spindle with a hammer. Getting the ball joints and torsion bars unstuck is probably the biggest PITA.

Get the actual torsion bar unloading tool. I tried the big c clamp and snowmobile helmet method and gave up after it slipped off the first time and went and grabbed the tool from a tech I knew at the dealership for an hour.

So do you guys all own the service manual and torque this stuff down to the proper torques?

I used a 7-ton jaw type puller, worked great as well. I would have used the torsion bar tool if I didn't already have the puller. It was suggested somewhere, if you are using a jaw puller, don't use anything less than 7-ton, as lesser can break/bend/slip.

when the time comes, just gonna fork over the 150 for the tool.

For the next couple hours i am gonna try and decide between doing lift and tires first or going the performance route and doing stacks, efi, guages, egr, etc. I am struggling to decide as i only have about 6k to play with.

I have been told by many to do trans and efi, but i dont think i should do efi without an exhuast, and if i do stacks i am gonna pay someone to do them and them cant afford to do trans.

tried the whole package thing. With the discount i won from NORCAL i cant do one guy.lift is gonna run me about 2200 or so once its all said done and shipped. I dont think i can muster up rims and tires for 2500, and still afford performance.

EFI Live and a built trans will be like going from owning a moped to a Camaro. I am a big fan of performance and lifted capable trucks with big ass tires. I would hands down go EFI Live and a trans you will not regret it. Just my .02c for what it's worth.

is efi useless without a new exhaust?

Can you really feel the difference in performance with a new trans?
