Im thinking 3 pyrometers. Left, right & downpipe. I like to know all the info I can about my motor. What's the popular vote on this? More info the better or overkill?

I vote L/R manifolds and turbine inlet. Turbine inlet is usually the hottest anyway, thats where the pressure is. Who cares about turbine outlet

At the most left and right, and only reason for that is to see if something goes wrong with a injector making one bank really hot. 0 need for 3. Really no need for more than 1. The ideal place would be right before the inlet, that way you could read both banks with 1 probe. Post turbo temp will change with how hard your turbo is working (more boost means more of a temp drop across the turbine). Post turbo you can sort of watch both banks, but have to do the math.
Chances are with your year truck you won't have injector issues so one probe in the manny is enough

Hell I bet most of the time you won't look at the 1 you have anyways when you are racing
Better off getting a oil temp gage

For a serious build one per bank should suffice. For your normal everyday daily diver one is fine

I run one in the manifold, after little charger, and after the big charger. I usually only watch the post probes on cool down. I've had the big charger stay above 400 degrees for 3 minutes longer than the little charger and the pre probe. It's amazing how long a heat soaked gt5533r takes to cool down.

What?

If I had the money and ability, my car would have a pyro in each header primary.

I have L/R, setup to datalog with EFI, or just the original right side when I'm driving. There is about a 200*F difference between the sides (left is colder). The left side is a BD, the right is a drilled stocker. I think the difference is the casting lug on the BD versus the drilled stocker means the probe is not quite long enough on the right side and not sitting in center of the manifold.

I'm a more info guy, but I would only do L/R.....unless I had a multi-channel datalogger, log style manifolds, and could do all 8.
