Can I use a divorced transfer case behind a 2wd Allison without any glitches or will the wacked gearing screw up the shifting or computer any? Speedo be ok? Etc.

I've just bought an LBZ with 2wd 6-spd for my 83 GMC and am thinking of putting a divorced 205 behind it if the trans will be fine with it.

Thanks for the help! I'm soooo pumped to finally be gearing up to start the build up. I've had the truck since March and now I get to knock a couple of the BIG ticket items I've needed for the conversion. :D

The tail peace on the 2wd is different than a 4wd. But I believe they are interchangeable.

Awesome! Thanks Mike.

sub, yes, my understanding that the main difference in the 2wd and 4wd is the tail housing and output shaft. BUT I want to keep it a 2wd trans and run a divorced transfer case.

I can't really see where this will be a problem as it will have no way of knowing what's going n beyond the output shaft so the low range of the transfer case will be no different than a gear swap in the differential which doesn't screw with the shifting as far as I know.

I'll be in contact though Mike to pick your brain on this.

I figured that would be the case 'bu.

I should clarify, it's a 6-spd ALLISON, not a ZF-6 6-spd manual transmission. Thanks though ceb0217.

Sounds like an awesome project Mitch.;) We were considering using my old 205 for our truck but then came across the t-case we needed. Talk to some of the gasser guys to see what it is that they seem to break on the tailshaft and get the fix before you put it in.

My 78 just rolled out of here on a trailer, gone for good.:( I got a Suzuki LTZ 400 in trade though.

Good luck, let me know if we can help you in anyway.

Yeah, I know what you're talking about but can't remember exactly what it is. I've been told they won't last with any substantial amount of power going through it (which I shouldn't have in work stock configuration) so I may have to find something else later on but for now, this will really aid in ease of conversion I hope.

I got to thinking though, the truck has already been cut down to a short bed from a long bed and the duramax/allison isn't exactly a short setup. You get where I'm going, I'm a little concerned about the length of the driveline with the divorced xcase. Don't want it to create silly u-joint angles on the rear. I don't think it will be we'll surely find out soon enough.

Ed, I got your PM over yonder... have Garrick and/or John gotten back with ya on it? I know Garrick is super busy and hasn't been online much so I'll let him know about it if he hasn't. ;)

Can you run a pro-fab x-case in your class. it will take all the power you can throw at it and then some. Would be the easiest to divorce mount too.
