2WD to 4WD conversion

I tried a search and didn't find anything that jumped out at me.

A friend at work has a 2004 2WD Crew Cab, he was asking what would be involved in moving to 4WD with it. I figure the best thing he could do would be to get a wrecked 4WD to get the front suspension/drivertrain and he would need to visit MikeL to get the trans converted from 2WD to 4WD (probably using parts from the donor) but what else would be involved? Or would something like this even be doable or should he just sell and get a 4WD?

Unless the truck has a lot of custom work / mods done already, I would consider selling and buying what he really needs / wants. That's going to be a pretty large project...

The frame mods looked like they were for the suspension, were they?
