ok guys what are your opinions on setting up a 2wd truck for the dragstrip. the truck is an 06 reg cab long bed 2wd dodge.i have considered full back half and going short bed, however after talking with my suspension man he thinks the long bed is better.what do you guys think?any 2wd racers here? run springs or coil overs?...thanks...

I would go short bed , the weight savings would be decent and i think the short bed could be made to hook , 4link and tubed though .

The more tire the better. I've had good luck with leaf springs and Cal-Tracs but it is hard to beat the adjustability of the 4 Link & Coil Overs.

I like the longer wheel base myself. Short wheel base will save weight - any particular class you looking to run in? Most Super Street classes are 5000lbs minimum and Pro Street is 4500lbs.

Weight?...Wheelbase?

the starting weight as it sits now with me in it is 6000lbs.i expect weight to be 5500lbs ish in race trim, may be lighter but i want the truck to be fully functional so it wiont be completely gutted out.as far as wheel base im not sure what it is on a stock reg cab...

this was my initial plan but my suspension guy feels i should stay with the long bed, because it will give me more control on the top end but will hurt some out of the whole.i am thinking 4 link but will try reduced springs and caltracs first, but dont plan on tubbing, with dropping the spring off planty of room for tire in the fender well...

I would go with a ladder bar(36 to 40") with the long wheelbase. 32" if it's a short bed. The ladder bar will give it more stability than a four link. It's also very easy to get lost on a 4 link set-up. Buy the best shocks you can afford! Man, you are going to make me step it up being your going fasst in the old truck and now you will have a lite weight truck! lol. Jeff

Chris at SoFab here locally seems to be having a hell of a time making his back-halfed, 4-linked, RCSB hook up on the track, while the RCLB guys seems to be doing better.
i have been talking with Chris, and he feels some of his problem is tires being so wide he is out of the groove, plus he isstill learning to setup the 4link.i hope to get to the track with him next time he heads out...

If you ever end up with a 4link , the software's out there are very helpful , aside from building the initial setup , it would be very helpful to tune one also. Keep us posted what you chose , I am 4-linking my 4x4 now , if that doesnt work i am leaving room to go 2x4 with a big tire , but havent seen anyone try it on a actual truck type chassis 2wd with sucsess( sub 1.5's ) , i definatly think its possible just not many have tried with a serious effort .

i honestly dont even care for sub 1.5 times.if i can hook my curent power up in the 1.5x range and weigh 1700 plus lbs lighter than i do right now,i will be able to compete with the current crop of prostreeters. one of the major reason i am leaving the 4x4 other than weight is dodges get death wobble and im trapping almost 109mph in the 8th if it happened at those speeds id be toast....

I just sold my QA1 single adj shocks up front and ordered their coilover equivalents (thanks for the info Jeff Dean!). I will also be getting adj rear shocks in the near future. I will need to scale my truck to get the correct springs but I should have it back on the road pretty quick.

My best 60' has been 1.77 but I have not been aggressive yet leaving (due to a tight converter and a stock posi unit). I have a Grizzly Locker on the way and a set of M/T 33x10.5w to help remedy that. I am at 11.52 on fuel @ 122mph.

Coilovers are on the front - easy bolt in. Now I am working on the finding the best spring to get front end rise and still maintain ride height.

long springs 14" maybe longer

take load ride height lenght of current springs..
take compression travel * spring rate= load

then do backwards math... load/ compresed hieght of the 14" springs to get spring rate..

from what i have learned form others.. longer softer spring helps nose rise more then a hard short spring.
