2wd S10 tranny doing wierd stuff

[03 D-max]

1996 2.2l 4spd auto, after the tranny shifts into fourth and the rpms drop it starts reving up and down like the tranny is kicking in or out or something but if you give it a little throttle the rpms go up and it quits doing it, its like the converter is locking and unlocking. i dont know anything about these trannies and it is my daily driver and is very annoying

ps. i beat the living hell out of it and the harder i beat it the worse it gets

Could be band or sprag. Either way it has to come out.
