Should there be any play in the tranny output shaft? I greased the splines today and notice I can turn the output a (very) little and it makes a metalic clunk when it stops. Truck was in park with blocks holding it.

First off, why did you grease the splines in a fixed yoke? And second, yes, you can rotate the output back and forth slightly when the park pawl is engaged. The "clunk" is the dog teeth on the P3 carrier contacting the pawl.

As stated above the movement is normal Lawrence. Fixed yoke needs no grease and we sure don't want any of that grease to mix with the atf.

That's good to hear about the movement...guess I'm a little paranoid...after welding the clutches and plates together...

You would think that while removing the bolt it would have dawned on me that the yoke was fixed.... I used the GM grease that should be OK with the ATF. It must have been the mid-shaft yoke that was hanging, 'cause the drive-line bump is gone now.
