2wd Allison in a 4x4?

I have a bad 4x4 tranny and can get a 2wd for cheap will it work if I swap the adapter plate?

I believe rear output shaft is different too.

I had the same deal on a 79 Chevy, had a extra 4 speed setting in the shop, I had to swap the rear output shaft between the transmisions before it would work. Of course I have not been that deep in a Allison so I can not say for sure. good luck

Unbolt the complete extension housing as a unit and switch them.
