Mike, I towed my toy hauler this weekend and had high trans temps. I already have your cooler and now a SCIV and the trans temp. hovered around 235 while towing yesterday. I was driving in t/h, outside temp around 107*, driving around 68 mph with my trailer empty, except food and clothes, no bikes, water or anything else. Trailer might be 9k. Any other ideas on how to keep it cool?

Chad, you have a billet grille correct? Wonder if it would help to take it out when towing. Just an idea.

Make sure you are not over full on your fluid level. You may have to take the Transgo converter flow valve out and put the stock one back in.
Mike, I do have a grille, but last summer before the trans. was done I did a trip to Cali in August and had just put Mikes cooler on and the trans temp stayed at or below 200* pulling the same load, same weather, and I had the grille in then too. I'm not sure...
Thanks Mike, I will check the level and I don't believe we kept the stock valve after the install. I will have to check the shop.

I don't think 230* is a huge concern is it with an outside temp of 110*? I used to run the old motor home around 220* - 230* all the time with no ill effects. It may not be desireable, but is it really bad for the tranny? What temp does ATF start to vaporize/breakdown??

235* is very hot. I wouldn't run those temps, that trans will get fried.

Fluid level checked hot, just a few clicks below top of hot after a good drive (trans was 210* when checked) so it is definitely not overfilled... I was just driving around in traffic yesterday and it got to 220* with the AC on, as soon as I turned of the ac, it dropped down to 205*. Any other ideas, lock up valve maybe?
Good question, what is a reasonable max operating temp (under load and not) for a built Allison transmission?
