My GMC came with factory 20's....(not a fan of 20's on a truck) have any of you noticed a better ride by going to 18's? Thinking the taller sidewall might give a better ride??

Im not sure about going down from 20s, but I noticed a difference just when going from 17s to 18s (running the same brand / height tire). Maybe its just me though....

This is just my opinion on this. A taller sidewall would give more to bumps but with the Load E, 10 ply tire that should be on the HD trucks I wouldn't make a difference in the sidewall height.

I have this same problem. I have an 08 but the guy i bought it from put the newer 20s on it. The ride is rough. I was thinking about getting some 18s real soon with a bit larger diameter tire to soften the ride a bit. You dont think itll work?

Thanks

It should help, especially if you don't run max pressure. I notice a HUGE difference in roughness between 35 PSI and max in my tires. Unfortunately, I also notice an inverse difference in mileage with the low pressure. Can't have it all, I suppose.

it has a leveling kit and im not gonna cut my truck up like that. thanks though. if it were an older truck i would. ive done it to my 01 but not this one. i was just asking if it would help with ride quality.

wow your running 60 psi thats crazy! i only run 40 to 45 in my 20's 60 psi is only recommened when towing something! that much air pressure will give you a rough ride and a ballon effect and cause the tires to wear.

alot of time it also deals with what kinda tires you are running and the air pressure, i put my 20"s on my truck and it improved the ride 100%

its the oem 2011 20s on the new trucks. wrangler E load range tires. guy had them put on with an adapter and recently found out that they had to cut the studs to make them fit. not happy about it. Im going to get that fixed soon and get some fuel 18s and 285/65/18 nitto terras for it. ill let you know how they work out.

I would try new shocks first. I don't notice much of a difference in ride when going from my 285/75/16's compared to my 285/55/22's. bad shocks and cranked torsion bars adversely affect ride more than anything.

I went from stock rims with 35's to 33's on 20 inch rims and didnt notice much of a difference. I did put a fresh set of shocks and turned the bars down a bit at the same time though.

I run 18's with a skinny 35", the size is 285/75/18. This size is my personal preference for our trucks, it tows awesome with a single wheel rating of 4080lbs, lasts longer than any other size i have ever ran, and gives a comfortable ride.

I'm with Cornell, first thing get some decent shocks and see how it feels. The stockers suck so bad they should be left in the dealer parking lot.

Bilstein or fox are good stuff.

Brent, if you decide to go to 18's I may be interested in buying your wheels for my dad's LML. PM me if you decide to go that route and want to sell them.
