Has anyone measured the out put of the factory base model stereo on a 2018 model truck?

Looking for what it peaks out at in volts.

Base or Bose?

I'm pretty sure the vehicles with a Bose system use a balanced output from the radio. I know 2008s do. Not sure if the non bose systems do this.

I think it is somewhere in the neighbor of 2 volts. And like mentioned above it is not a regular line in/out for at leat the vehicles with a Bose system

base system, its spealer level just need to know the volts, JL says my twk 88 with accept up to 7 volts.

7 volts seems kind of low for an amp running on 14 volts

Without a scope you could use a diode to charge a capacitor hooked up to the speaker line. Then measure the voltage with the volume turned up

I wouldn't be surprised if it was closer to 12 volts

it doesnt have high level inputs, it will accept up to 7 volts though. so before i order line converters id like to confirm i need them.

why would you use a diode and a capaciter, why not just measure the voltage at the speaker?

Sorry, your right, the TWK 88 is a line level input.

If you are adding this to your stock head unit why aren’t you using the JL Audio FiX 86??

i already have the twk 88, and after talking to jl tech support, i guess the fix 86 just cleans up the signal and gives you a flat frquency ( i cant think of the correct term) and removes time correction and all that kind of stuff.

He said i would still have to use the twk 88 to give full control and add my woofer channels

why would you use a diode and a capaciter, why not just measure the voltage at the speaker?

Unless your DOM can give you a clean reading from a variable amplitude and variable frequency it would be hard to interpret the signal as a single digit voltage level. Most meters will likely give you bogus readings or give you and average

The diode to capacitor is just a crude way to allow you to capture all the peaks and store them for the meter to read as a clean DC voltage. If you want that in AC RMS then multiply it by 0.714

Or if you can get it to output a clean sine wave you can measure that directly. Maybe use the line in and with your phone play a YouTube video of a test tone or another site that has them

I’m so confused.

The cheap way. Find the factory amp. Hook rca’s to the low level input.

Easier way. Buy the plug in from pac audio that gives you rca’s from the back of the factory deck. It’ll also give you a remote wire.

You don’t need a fancy devices to hook up aftermarket amps. The factory deck provides good quality sound.

Edit: the twk 88 has an equilizer? That would be helpful then. The low level is less than 7 volts I’m sure of. I believe the older trucks are close to 5 volts but I’d have to double check.

Thanks 2004lby that’s a great description.

The base model radio doesn’t have low level outs.
Even if it did I still wouldn’t have a proper sub channel.

Once you’ve used a processor you’ll never go back.
The possibility’s and endless.

Does anyone know the ohms of the factory base model speakers? And what watts they are supposed to run?

Oh I confused base and Bose. You’d have to use a line output converter. I’m sure you probably want to use what you have already. But have you looked into audio control amps? You can use their amp that has the digital signal processor built in and it excepts high level input.

Wouldn't you be able to use a potentiometer on the speaker out to drop the voltage to a suitable level?

Leg 1 to line out of radio, leg 2 to twk 88 and leg 3 to ground

I have looked at those amps but I’ve also got amps here I’d like to, plus I like the idea of being able to swap amps out without loosing my processor.

I suppose that would work, JL has the loc 22 output converter which I think I’ll use. Not crazy priced and they are signal sensing and will provide me with a remote turn on for amps and processor which will be convenient

Question: is this the touchscreen infotainment system? Is it the same radio thats in the 2014-2017 cars or different? Reason I ask is if it is like the cruze, there might be an infotainment module which is where you can tie in an adapter to get the line level outputs you need.
