All I wanted for Christmas this year was to eliminate the annoying as hell dash rattle I've had for the last 15 months since I bought my new 2016 GMC Sierra 3500HD Denali CCSB SRW 4x4 with the Duramax/Allison combo.

I've been to my local Cadillac/GMC dealer probably 5 times for this dash rattle, which was coming from underneath the dash right behind and underneath the steering wheel. Before and after going to the dealer, who could neither identify nor fix the rattle, I put zip ties on any lose wires or anything I could find under the dash to no avail. I performed endless internet searches for people with this issue to find a solution and although I found many a thread complaining of dash rattles, they were all from different causes and none of their solutions were my solution.

FINALLY, this morning, I found a thread about a dash rattle on a 2016 Sierra right behind the steering wheel and the OP believed the cause to be the column shifter linkage, pictured below, to be the culprit. As soon as I read it I ran outside to take my lower dash panel off and upon inspection, I found that there is a large cir-clip on the end of a metal rod that was loose and when touched, would make the same noise I'd been hearing. The linkage is hard to get to because it's in a tight spot and I have large hands and arms so you have to be in a real uncomfortable position to work on it. After finding what I thought was causing the issue, I put a zip tie around the cir-clip and a metal support next to it and then put everything back together.

Next step was to take a test drive and test my fix. After driving 30+ miles over bumpy roads with no air or radio on and the windows up, I'm happy to say that the rattle is completely gone and my life is better than it was before.

The end!
