2015 HALF TON Silverados.
Relax guys, the Allison is here to stay for the Dmax-equipped HD's. :thumb:
The 8L90 DOES NOT have the torque handling and GCWR-ratings of the Allison, just to quash any silly rumors that GM is going to "get cheap" and dump the Allison in the Duramax trucks.
Right now, the 8-speed 8L90 is only officially confirmed for the 2015 6.2 powered half ton trucks. I assume within a couple months, GM will start putting it in the 6.2 SUV's (ie, escalade/denali). And within the next model year or two, put it in the 5.3 and 4.3 trucks/SUV's as well.
6.0 gasser HD truck's, no word, but probably coming soon for them too.
Originally it was thought to be a GM-license-built version of the ZF 8HP 8-speed auto that chrysler and numerous European cars use...but apparently that is not the case; it does have a couple similarities to the ZF 8-speed, but its definitely a clean-sheet GM design when looking at the details.
Here is an extremely in-depth technical analysis of the 8L90. I know Mike L will get a kick out of this, so this is for him and all the other transmission nerds out there!

Nothing is known about what controller its using. Its a standard externally-mounted controller this time, unlike the 6L80/90 transmissions that used a T43 controller mounted inside the pan submerged in fluid.
