Will leveling my truck affect its handling or 4x4 capability? I'm trying to convince the wife it won't change anything other than the appearance. Thanks in advance.

Glad to hear it!

Anyone have pics of a leveled 2500 with 275/65/20?

If I can't convince her to allow a level anyway, will that same size fit a stock truck with out rubbing?

Leveling kits are hard on suspension parts. Launching in 4x4 is deadly. Go with a full lift or leave it stock

What's the smallest lift you can do and be effective? I don't want to hurt towing capability or the mpg anymore than neccessary. It's my daily driver and will be for a while.

No, It will not have any effect on handling or capabilities.:thumb:

Huh....?

I'm not sure about the new body style trucks (GMT 900) but on the classic body truck (GMT 800) a level lift is baaaaaaaaaaad:eek:

It will affect handling, it will affect the life of the steering components, it will shorten the life of the wheel bearings, and in performance applications you will tear up c/v axles like nobody's business.

Level lifts literally force everything to be in a constantly extended position, limiting the amount of travel available and the amount of dampening the shock can do. This will affect cornering, comfort and off road ability. If you are really wanting a bigger tire and all the comfort and reliability that stock suspension offers, get a small lift, like a 4" front lift with a 2" rear lift in the form of a block or DEAVER mini leaf spring pack. When it's done and on it won't look much bigger than a stock truck and about the same as a level lift, but it will look like it has an edge to it, it will look more aggressive and be more capable, and still be comfortable to drive and easy enough to get in and out of

Excellent post. Ill take your advice and look into a 4 and 2 lift rather than a level. I don't want to take away any of the truck's capability.

That looks great! How do you like those duratracs? Are they fairly quiet?

Good so far, they do have a little hum to them going down the road. I have had my truck leveled since the day I brought it home and has 34,000 miles on it now. Make sure and get an alignment done if you level it.

Have you ever heard how loud the BFG ATs are? I've had them in the past and I'm curious how the noise compares to them.

Really......... I've owned several 2500hd trucks that have been leveled and never noticed any more wear than normal. Exactly how does it effect handling or capabilities of the truck? I tow 14,000 lbs. with mine and handles great! , still has the factory ride.

I had 305/55/20 Bfg ats on it first, but only got about 27,000 miles out of them. The duratrac's are alittle louder than them.

Congratulations. You are in a minority. Simple principles apply as to how a level lift negatively affect the ifs on the gm trucks, I'm not going to get into it with you, and banter back and forth over it, I will simply say you are dead wrong, and maybe you forget just how supple the ride is from a stock GM truck.

Quick note, the more you crank the bars the worse it gets. I too have had several trucks level lifted, I attest IMHO, that level lifts affect the ride off road ability and cornering ability of the gmt 800 in a very poor fashion.

To each his own, but I think you'll find more members agree with my post than disagree. It's kinda a known fact....

Like I said it had adverse on my lbz. One of the dealers on here sells a lift if I'm not mistaken and alot of guys are using that lift on their pulling trucks.
