I have an 08 LLM with 13,000 miles on it. I bought the truck salvaged with 2,000 miles on it hit hard on the right front. It ran great after I fixed it, not one problem. I put about 700 miles on it and decided the dpf had to go, put turbo back magnaflow dual exhaust on it with the edge race evolution programmer only run on level 1.
Love the power but now about a year later and 10,000 miles i'm having problems. During everyday driving I really don't notice issues but as soon as I put a load on it the motor seems like it surges, the boost drops and it starts puffing dark black smoke. I started noticing the problem just before this past winter. At first it wasn't much of an issue but I plow with the truck and after the heavy snows we got the problem got worse and worse puffing more and more smoke and cutting out worse and worse. I replace the fuel filter thinking that was the problem but no such luck, the problem continued. I've just ignored the problem for the past few months and not pulled anything so it really hasn't bothered me that much. Well last weekend i pulled a 35ft trailer 500 miles one way on vacation and the truck ran like shi!!!. I noticed around 1700 to 1800 rpm it was starting to surge and lost boost non-stop under a load up inclines. It got to the point where it would be on a large hill and I could hear the waste gate completly open and it would lose all boost. I would have to completely let off the gas to get it to come out of it. It did this non-stop for 500 long miles. I noticed if I would hold the rpms above 2000 before I started to go up the inclines it wouldn't miss a beat. Only problem with that was I made it a whole 160 miles on 23 gallons of fuel.
I just don't know what to do. I'm not sure if there is something wrong with programmer, a sensor, a hole in the intercooler or if there is something wrong with the egr. I just got my egr blocker in the mail but I know there has to be more to it. I took it to the dealer and they wanted to pull the turbo out of it to check it. I declined on that offer as there couldn't be anything wrong with the turbo and if there is I'll take it out myself with your suggestions. Anyone have any ideas please let me know.
