2008 1500 T-Case Fluid

Hey guys, I was just wondering what fluid is recommended for my 2008 1500 with auto 4wd? I was expecting to use that GM Autotrac stuff, but my owner's manual says Dex VI. Thanks.

you only need the auto-trac stuff if you have an automatic transfer case.

Out of curiosity I looked on SI and apparently all the Magna Powertrain t-cases for your year of truck take dex.6. auto or manual, 1/2 to 1 ton

Thanks for the response. Looks like I'll be using Dex VI. And I do have the auto transfer case, hence my confusion.

use a good full synthetic 5w-30. it lasts longer and handles the heat better.

I use SYNCRO MESH fluid in mine. It was used in several FWD transaxles, and the NV3500/NV3550 from DODGE. GM used the same trans, but used ATF in it. Since the same trans speced ATF or SYNCRO MESH, I figured it would work similarly in a transfer case. The AMSOIL SYNCRO MESH fluid matches up REALLY close to that of ATF in viscosity, quite a bit closer to ATF than 5W30 does when cold, but holds it's viscosity better when hot.

unles its an "auto t-case", there are no clutches inside nor in a manual trans
