Hello!
My name is John, and I'm a first time Duramax owner. I picked up my 100% stock 2500HD from a ford dealer with super low miles. I live in San Diego CA. I tow a 24'Skipjack boat, and a 24' Attitude trailer. The day after I purchased the truck, the check engine light came on. I took it back to the dealer, and they said I needed a new Turbo! So I made them do it! 2 days later light comes on again. 3 months later, I took it to a well known mechanic 'king duramax, and he said no way i needed a turbo (even though it was already done) but now I needed a new ECR valve. So I got that done; 1000.00!! The light came on a day after that work too! WTF. next day light goes offf. So it's intermittent. Not too worried, because it drives fine.
Now for the fun stuff: It has 16" stock chrome rims, with Kumo tires..
I would like recommendations for a solid lift to get rid of the rub when I turn, and to make it look and ride better than it does. Here are some pics.

What mods are a must for this, it seems a bit sluggish. I'm thinkin about opening it up too, K&N?
1. 3" seems to be what it needs with a leveling kit and maybe 18"s with 33's? Should I go Bilstiens? new coils... it rides a bit like a big moving couch.
2. But I'm looking for solid smooth ride, with a bet more clearance, and
3. I'd like to have it look like this, anyone have an idea of what size tires & lift this has: https://sacramento.craigslist.org/ctd/d/sacramento-2006-chevrolet-silverado/6922560450.html

4. I have 305, 70 R16 Kumhos. Need recommendation for new tires as well!
If I do a 3" lift should I do 18's?

All thoughts help! Thanks for letting me scatter all my thoughts... Even though this is a 06 it has 45K miles, and I plan on owning for a long time till death does us apart. :)

Welcome.

We've got a "Chassis and Suspension" section that you can ask the lift questions in.

Look in the "Hard Parts" section for the the LBZ sub header.....thats where the engine stuff goes.

Lastly, there's a "Wheels and Tires" section for the tire ??s

Just look around, you'll figure it out. :thumb:

PS -- dont put ANYTHING from K&N on a Duramax, esp their "air filters"

Welcome to DD

“Performance filters” don’t do much alone and really ain’t needed on a stockish truck. Sluggish is subjective, but you still might have some issue that hasn’t been resolved. Lots discussion about lifts here. A 4” lift is a lot better and cost more, but some are happy with 3” “lifts”. All kinds of options on tires weather you want MTs or Hwy tires. You can pick whatever size tires you like. The most important thing is you get some the right width and backspace to work with your tires and lift.
