I have a 2006 LBZ but have a line on a complete longblock (condition unknown) that I might want to pick up to build (i.e. heads, cam, displacement, etc).

Are they compatible and what would be a good price to pay?

Thanks.

The bottom end will be compatible, but you will need LBZ heads and injectors. You will also need to use the reluctor wheel from the LBZ so the ecm reads the crank signal correctly.

Thanks.

Any benefit to running the LBZ head or should I just have the 2005 head worked over and run that?

Are the flow rates on the done up versions of both heads comparable?

Any reason that the LLY injections, blueprinted, wouldn't be fine?

Thanks.

Iirc LLY injectors are bigger than LBZ body wise... Therefore they won't fist in the lbz injector holes
Injectors and glowplugs are the main difference between heads

Other way around, LLY injectors will fit in LBZ heads. LBZ injectors won't fit in LLY heads

Okay. Figured that if I went with more displacement and a different cam profile, head work would likely optimize that combo.

Can the LBZ injectors be retrofitted into the LLY head or vice versa?

What do you mean by more displacement? Every Duramax is a 6.6. & overboring doesnt add significant cu in.

No, in order to run LBZ injectors, you will need LBZ heads. If the motor was going into an LLY, you could use LBZ heads and LLY injectors. They run on completely different ecms so its not retro compatible after 06.

Only way you're adding displacement is if you stroke it.

Thanks for all the replies.

Sounds like the motor would only be good for the shortlbock aspect of things.

What do the stock cranks support?

I guess if I got the whole thing, I would try to sell the head, injectors, etc. to purchase a spare LBZ head as well.

Thanks.

What do you think of my other rationale on the shortblock stuff?

If I can pick up a complete motor for under 1K, I am guessing its worth it?
