Hey guys on my 2004 duramax (LLY) my Speedo and also my odometer don't work.. all my other gauges work fine except those 2 on my programmer and my diagnostic machine it tells me how fast I am going, so I have ruled out the sensor and I wouldn't be concerned if it was only my Speedo that didn't work bit my odometer doesn't not work so how can I fix this? Does anyone know what wires signal these on the cluster so I can check them? Any help appreciated thanks

The Speedo goes down below zero and back up to zero but that's it

Could be the gauge motors are shot, common problem with that year Chevy. There is a guy online that can install new motors if you send him the gauge pod. I think he's in New York. He did my Avalanche several years ago.

Did you watch my videos? The motors work properly when I test them with my scanner.. It's almost like there's no connection from the sensor to the speedo

So the truck runs, drives, and shifts normal? If so that rules out a speed sensor issue. No check engine lights, abs lights, or any others? If so that means they're getting a speed signal from the ECM, so that tells us the TCM is sending out the VSS signal correctly, and the ECM is broadcasting them. I'm not sure, but I know on 01-02 trucks there was a dedicated speedometer output wire from the ECM to the cluster and radio. I don't know if GM went to data bus for the speed reading on 03-07 classic trucks, or if they kept a dedicated speedo output from the ECM to the cluster. May be worth looking into.

Did a little digging, and according to a diagram I found for an 04 avalanche, pin A4 for the cluster should be a dark green with white stripe, and provides the speed signal to the cluster from the ECM. Not sure if it splits off to the radio as well for the SCV in an 04, or if it reads speed from the J1850.
