Thanks for taking the time to help out with my ?

I have an 03 duramax with 6.0 diesel motor.
The last 2 days my truck will not keep running. I know that it has been 5000 miles since I last changed out fuel filters.
So I did a change out today and filled up the new filter with fresh diesel and installed it. I bled out the filter and had plenty of fuel at the top of the filter. I turned on ignition to warm up the coils, and then turned it over to start.
It fired up once and ran for 45 seconds, and then nothin g. I re bledd the fuel filter again, and won't start.

Now I do have 143,000 miles on the truck and I also know that the stepper motors can and do got out at this milage point. Currently my transmission temp guage does not work, my water temp does not work, and my rpm guage does not work.

My ? is, having these three stepper motors already gone bad, will this effect the fuel pump, and the abilty for the truck to fire up and stay running?

Hope That I have explained my issue good enough for some answers.

Thanks so much for taking the time to help me.

I believe that my fuel pump is still good, as when the key is turned over it runs for a few seconds and then stops.

I have always added the correct non alcohol injector cleans since I have owned the truck,

It sounds like the filter head (the piece you screw the filter onto) may be bad. This is allowing air to get into the system.

The stepper motors are just in the cluster and should have no effect on the mechanical workings of the truck.

I hope that helps.

Hi Brandon, thanks for the reply.

I did rebuild the fuel filter mount around 6000 miles ago and that cured the last air in fuel line issue.

I can't believe that it may be that again, but stranger things have happen I guess.

I appreciate your time in replying to my question. have a great weekend.

No problem Stu. I'm glad to help.

I would assume too much upward pressure installing the filter could crack the housing. I personally have never come across it but I could see it happening. That might be another area for inspection.
