Ok guys i talked to Mike L. tonight on the phone about this project i want to do. What i am doing is buying a 2005 LLY dmax that has a toasted tranny. I found a allison trans. from a 2003 truck that i am going to swap into the 2005. Mike told me that the 2005 has the G solenoid that the 2003 doesnt have. He also said there is a good possibility that the trans cooler lines would be different. Mike was extremely helpful!!! He said if i did the swap that it would work but the ecm/tcm would recognize no G solenoid and the CEL would be on and may not run right. So after speaking with him i kept thinking about this and im wondering if it is possible to swap valvebodies that way the 2003 trans would have the G solenoid? Also is there any sort of adapter kit for the tranny lines? Please anyone that has done this swap please chime in on what you did. Im selling the truck after complete so im not worried about building the trans for horsepower purposes or anything i just want to put a stock trans in this truck. Hope all this makes sense

Swap

I just run into the tranny line problem. I machined the step in the fitting to accept the line. The inside dia. where the line seals is the same. The outside flange of the line is .050 bigger. I machined the inside of the fitting .050. Works like a charm. Jeff

Why not just use that money and build the lly trans:confused:

Because i cant build the trans myself and the only GOOD local tranny guy i have is backed up with motor builds, plus im getting a complete 03 tranny, 263xhd transfercase rebuilt last year, and another spare 263xhd transfercase all for 950 dollars. So basically after i sell the tcases the 03 tranny will be free.

To make the electical side work, install the 05 internal wiring harness and simply plug the G solonoid into it and leave it laying in teh pan tie strapped out of the way. The TCM doesn't know if it is actually on, it will simply command it on at idle. If you install the late model 5 speed harness and plug the G solonoid into it the TCM won't know the difference. Also you will have to swap NSBU switches as the 03 will most likely have the 2 plug, and the 05 will have the single plug style.

I just went through all of this when I put Simon's built Ally out of Abby in my truck. As mentioned above. I used my 04.5' valve body (after swapping the shift kit) in the 02' trans. Swapped the harness from the 04.5' and the nsbu switch into the 02' built trans. Works just fine.

And as stingpuller mentioned the push lock line fittings are different. I replaced my lines top to bottom. Jeff's fix sounds real easy.

umm the twin kits will be going on this week, then mostly the rest will be cosmetic stuff, some more paint matching, i have to redo all the mirrors and door handles because they are good enough for me, i want a bedrug and maybe a new grill like rbp or trex or something along them lines and then im going to take the subwoofer box out and make a custom fiberglass box factory paint matched so she should look awesome by spring!

Burndown what do you mean when you say after switching the shift kit? Can i not just unbolt the valvebodies and swap them?

Yes if your swapping stock for stock. I was swapping the modded parts out of the built 02' valve body into my 04.5' valve body...

Sorry, didn't mean to confuse you.
