Well the time to build the trans is soon approaching and just wanting to get some opinions of what kits, converter and extras to get when i do the trans. not shooting for to high numbers like 550ish whp area. mods are in signature. use truck as DD so mpg to keep in mind and occasionally have other ppl drive truck so want it very driver-able but also want to take to track sometimes do alil drag racing and maybe get a high 12 or low 13 in the quarter mile. tow very little just wanted a truck that would last. i have lot of questions so dont necessarily need to answer all at once. just insight on one or most that you have knowledge and experience with. any advice will be most appreciated.

i was pretty set stage 5 ppe kit and SC 1058 but thinking the 58 might be tad to loose for DD and my turbo is pretty much stock. just a danville stage 1 which is a ported stock ihi with bmw running at about 28-30psi.then i was thinking the 56 bc its bit tighter but some say too tight. i know ppl say stock stall is 1800 but i push thru brakes at 1600ish. so i think at 2000 would be just about right for boosted 4wd launch on my truck. so my question there is which converter 56 or 58 or another converter?????

so then i hear and see suncoast have new kits one by alto and one by raybestos. are those better than ppe stage 5 kits? are those good and or better for DD? is one better or worse as DD or high HP trucks? so my questions there is which kit ppe stage 5, suncoast alto, suncoast raybestos????

Then to the extras i know line pressure is incrased alot which makes trans run hotter so whats best way too cool it? is deep pan need and or good idea? some say it good just have longer intervals but doesnt help lower temp and actually makes hard to cool trans when gets hot because there is more fluid to cool and there is more of it one area. if its good idea to get one which one PPE, magtec, gorened? PPE looks to have the biggest fins inside and out so thinking that has most surface are and would cool the best?? Then to aftermarket cooler like Mike L's trans cooler? havent heard anything bad about it. head lowers temps 20-40 degrees. is this needed for me too? should do pan and this cooler or just cooler or no cooler? another way i heard to keep it cooler is mike L c3 snake oilier? is this good idea and or needed? any other trans mods? any other mods? like BT lock up controller, traction bars any more mods like CP3 or injectors???

I like the PPE Stage V kits alot personally, but you can't go wrong with a Suncoast kit either or course. Do the Pump Rub fix while you have the transfercase out too. And if you were worried about temperature, I'd do the Mike L trans cooler before the deep pan, but I've never had any issues with mine running hot.

true ic yea thats what i hear. yea planned on pump rub fix forgot about it. yea i think do that later if i dont like where them temp is. lower temp helps fluids last longer def trans too.

sweet might lean into that tho. the only thing im worried about is like crusing around town what is rpms with 58? like im thinking it might rev engine up higher which wud be annoying and hurting mpg. i dont really know for sure thats why im asking. i see have 35s did you rear gear the truck or stock gears?

I've got an 1800 stall PI ML in mine, and it works REALLY well around town. My 01 stock converter was easily a 2100-2200 stall as that sucker was loose. Even with stock tuning I could easily flash it past 2000 RPM's power braking it. The ML converter gets to 1800 and it just holds there(give it more throttle and it just builds more boost, but doesn't really go up in RPM's).

No way a stock converter is 1600 stall. Mine is loose.

I would go with a ml ml-g or 57 converter.

Ml-g couples fast but I have not heard a stall yet. Sun coasts website should say the stalls for each converter or ask Andrew on here. As I daily driver I would not want a loose converter though.

well talk to my trans builder today. he talked me into the ML-G over 58 or 56 for my application. then going with ppe deep pan and pub rub fix. said its just like stock converter how it like creeps a bit with no throttle and no brakes like not even noticeable. but it might change as it will be late march when its going in to be done. cant wait now to get it done and break it in. ha

I've got an ML-G with the HD strator. Whoever tells you that this converter pushes through brakes at a stoplight doesn't know what the &?€£ they are talking about. This is an excellent converter for a stock turbo truck. As a matter of fact, I think it'll work plenty good in a compound setup with a stock on a 475 or 480.

What I mean by pushing thru the brakes is as if the truck were trying to move with your foot resting on the brake pedal. The truck will move when you release your foot. I can idle up and down my driveway.

As far as couple is concerned it is tight and will couple when you think it should couple. This simply means that the converter feels at home and acts the way it seems it should act. It couples hard and will blow tires off the moment it does at the right TPS. I cruise town on my "street tune" and if I stomp it at 30-40 mph, it'll go sideways. The street tune is probably a 450-480hp tune in my best guess. I've ran a 13.0x on this tune.

If you go with the ML-G and you drag race or pull, get an HD strator.

wow thanks alot for great info, def sound like converter for me!! yea def getting the HD stator bc i want to drag race and be reliable as possible. low 13 be awesome and breaking into 12s would be sick. my trucks bit heavier than yours tho. truck might go on diet to get into the 12s haha. what rpm do launch your truck at? i know my would be different but just wonder

I don't do rpm launches anymore. I do boost launches. With this converter, my best 60' is cut with a 17-20lbs launch. It's a pretty low stall converter so it doesn't take a lot of rpm to get there, but you need good brakes and tires to hold it.
