photo isnt my truck but my goal

does any body have a guide on doing a major like swap this??

so i want to drop a duramax in it with the 6 speed ally tranny behind it i have worked out my problem with putting the Allison up against my 203/205 dual with the help of a 203 ford input gear and a shaft adapter and spacer from aa and i droped a dana 60 solid front axle with a ten bolt rear end gearing 3.73 with 35s

now this is where where im running in to problems i need help on wiring it up i have heard something about a stand alone wireharness what is it where can i find it i can handle all the mechanical side of the build the wiring and sensors and ecm are what scares me

i am on the look out for a wrecked duramax with allison on the east coast so if anyone knows where to find one let me know but im not holding my breath for that either so if not i have a guy with an lb7 with lly pistons that needs injectors for 1 grand for this my question is what is really the best duramax lly lbz lmm....

and the last part is does any body have an ecm or know where i can pick one up

I've got a customer bringing in a 65 Chevy truck tomorrow for an LLY/Ally. It should be a fun build. I'll be taking plenty of pic's/notes as the build progresses. The LB7 will be a bunch easier if you want to put something behind it other then an Ally. Only problem is with a 3spd, gear selection gets fun!

If you want the 6 speed Ally, you need to find an '06 LLY or an LBZ or LMM. The older LLY's and LB7's are 5 speeds. I'm pretty sure PPE has the stand alone wiring harness.

Please takes lots of pics and make a build thread if you do the project. Should be bitchin'. :thumb:

soo after much thinking i think i might just build a duramax from the ground up with a lb7 block and crank with some lly pistons and rods question is what heads and intake (if i cant get a big hoss intake by banks :happy2:) i think ill pick up an lb7 harness and have some one convert it to stand alone unless i can find a page on how to do it my self and a emc by kennys and as far as the allison goes no dice

Then take a chill pill, dont be in an all fire hurry, theres lots you can do before you find a donor, if your not gonna put in a LLY to an LMM and do it nice this project is a waste! WAIT FOR A DONOR TO COME ALONG! If your just gonna primer it and romp the bitch your going in the right direction with an LB7 and piecing it all together crap parts are cheap!

x2, deals are out there jsut keep your eyes pealed. my buddy just picked a lb7 reg cab long bed 4x4 with 240k and a beat up bed for 1500 bucks. guy says it wouldnt start and was told it was the CP3. upon further diag, it looks as though the fuel filter housing is just cracked :D

yea i dont know what Dustin paid for his but it only had a blown head gasket. id love to get my hands on a cheap RCLB. dont care if it was a LB7. you can swap everything out to be whatever model you want if you can get the parts.

and like others have said all the little things will add up that a donor would have. just relax and get everything else done that you can do with out a dmax/alli

Or could pull out all the stop and build it from the ground up with the lbz block crank Lly rods and pistons a banks big hoss in take take a 2ed hand wireharness that I got from a buddy and send it off to ppe and prep a stand alone harness looking at a few head options banks power big hoss cooling kit a six speed tranny that a buddy runnig a tranny shop in town came across and rebuild it stage 5 and I have the nastiest transfer setup known to man lol plus twin turbos to boot i feel it's much better then just an Lbz sorry

Just cuz I'm not waiting on a donor doesn't mean me it will be crappy and if u knew how much work it was to covert a 2 door truck to a four door truck u would knew there is no such thing as cutting couners

Umm..............

A. I think its time to post up pics of ur truck, not what you want it to be.

B. These guys are just trying to help. They have done projects like this and know what they are talking about. You don't have to listen to them, but don't argue and don't get defensive because then they may not help next time. Lastly I think you may be forgetting all the little things you may need that a doner truck will have.

Depending how in depth you want to get (mostly as far as dmax gauge cluster & such) all the engine needs is the engine harness (that goes to the injectors & has the big bale connections), the harness from the engine to the underhood fuse block, a small fuse block & relays, the ECM, the throttle pedal, grounds, power wire, tuner to turn off some things like VATS and fuel supply to the cp3 IIRC. It doesn't take much to start one on an engine stand... A la "stand alone". From there, it gets more & more in depth as to what all you need. If going with 6spd Allison then I'd recommend full donor truck with one & just put everything from the donor in the old truck. It does communications thru the BCM & TCM & ECM IIRC for the tap shift & stuff. Then to use the dmax cluster, it also needs the bcm so there again, best to have donor truck.

If you just want engine with independent gauges & such, it can be kinda simple.

Search YouTube, there's a guy that outlines exactly what's needed to start the engine on an engine stand. :) it'd be no different in a converted vehicle.

i dont mean to sound upset but im just saying if some one tells you the lly is perfect but there know to break cranks and or that the lb7 is the only way to go when we know they have problems of there own and im sure the lbz and lmm do to if you push them or let them get alittle ware and tear to them so instead of picking one motor im doing the foot work now and finding out whats the best of the best and im going to put my motor together just like i have for my whole truck and im not just slapping some parts together im putting together the best duramax i know of just like every thing i have picked for this truck is the best of all chevy parts i got a 14bolt full floater out of a 77 sense it is the rear axle heaviest ever put into a chevy a 203 transfer out of the same 77 205 out of the 72 which i will merge in to a dual so that i can ride the highways with good fuel mileage and creep in the mountains when i want im using a 72 c20 frame, the suburban cab is a 71, the pick up cab and front clip is out of my 72 that i started out with

i uploaded some photos of spare parts and doors and this photos were taken right before i merge the cabs for the crew cab and i have yet to cut the forth door theres also a photo of a 4l80 that i was going to use sorry for the poor quality photos taken with my cell phone

but if you know of a donor ill be more then happy to take a look but at the same time im not going to put my truck on hold till i find a donor cuz if i could i would love to put it on the road or atleast be in paint by this time next year this truck has been 2 years in the works and with my new job with all the ot time i want i plan on kicking this project in high gear
