Hey guys and gals, I'm new to the site and already need help. I have a customer and friend that is a farmer, he has a 2001 GMC Duramax-Allison. It has 170,000 miles on it and has been completely stock since new. For over a year now and about the last 50-60,000 miles the truck has been going into "limp mode" and setting the 1093 code. The fuel filter has been replaced several times with no change. He has replaced the fprv which on the 01's is a unit with a sensor and valve in one part, I think. Yesterday a dealer tried to talk him into a new transmission that he does'nt need so I'm trying to help him get to the bottom of this problem. Any advice and or help is greatly appreciated.

1093 has nothing to do with the trans. has he tried a lift pump. he could have a weak cp3, but i am just guessing someone who is way smarter than i am will chime in. that is what is so great about this site

Thanks guys for the response, the truck is in Scotland Neck, N.C. I have suggested a lift pump, but I did'nt know if it would be a good idea on a completely stock truck. It may solve the problem but I'm afraid it may just be a "bandaid". My truck is slightly modified and has a lift pump, but it is needed because of the tune I'm running. I'm affraid a lift pump may just be a temporary fix for this truck that has a problem. stewie tuned, you mentiond possibly injectors, this problem has been the same for over a year, No better and no worse. I am going to have the truck a couple weeks to try to help get this problem ironed out, any suggestions on how to eliminate some stuff would help allot. Unfortunately there are no D-max techs anywhere neer that we no of. I think this problem could be solved by most anyone with a tech 2 and a little D-max experience. Although I do have a little experience with the D-max I do not have access to a tech 2. Thanks again for your suggestions!

Truck is at the dealer now, they still don't know anything but they are going to try a set of injectors and a new cp3, I hope not at the same time but you never know.

I know it's been a while, but I just wanted to give an update. The dealer replaced the injectors under waranty and the customer payed to have a new CP3 installed. The problem is solved but no one knows which repair solved the problem, they were done at the same time.

could be injectors....

could be injection pump....

Need a tech 2 to ramp up fuel pressures and see what you get. Also need to test the fuel return rates which would need to the tool...

Where is the truck located?

There is a spec on this right? Like it has to be a certain amount right?
But what causes the return rate to be bad? is it that its returning to much more so than not enough?

My geuss is weak cp3 and you could build a dsp tune with EFI to check it....but a Tech 2 would be better

Testing was out of the question it seems his dealer was good at replacing parts but not at testing, that worked out great for the dealer, they got paid to install a new CP3 and injectors instead of diagnosing the problem.

Especially with farm trucks that run fuel from a storage tank that isn't real busy, water and other contamination is a real issue. Not with just Dmaxes, all diesels. Most the "trashed" CP3's I've seen have smelled like a 10 year old lawnmower fuel tank. Water and rust smell.

If the CP3 gets the contamination, so does the injectors, so the dealer probably did the right thing.
