New one from Utah, I have a 08 3500 single axel that I traded my 02 f-250 ford in for and I have to say that I’m not too happy. I was getting around 21mpg running 35” tires on my ford now with the new truck I’m getting 10.2 mpg. The truck has 5300 miles on it and I do not run it hard but this is the best I got to date. I took it in the shop and ask about it but they said nothing was wrong. I have been reading all kinds of forums and most are getting around 17mpg

I have not seen many getting 17mpg. 10-12mpg seems to be the norm. DPF delete and a tuner can get you closer to 18-20mpg i believe. This is what i have been seeing around here @ 5200ft elevation daily drivers.

Did they check the balence raits on the injectors? Is there alot of black smoke when you get on it hard?

You won't get black smoke with a DPF installed.

Welcome to the site-and the world of the new environmentally friendly Diesels.

Reports across the board on all the big three is low fuel economy. 10-14mpg seems to be the norm.

My 08 3500 has averaged 16 mpg with a utility bed on. This is with about 75% freeway and 25% city.(22,000 mi) It floats between 10 and 12 mpg when I'm pulling the 03. Welcome to DD!

Am I missing something? Our 34ft motorhome on a kodiak chassis weighs approx. 17k gets 11 mpg on long trips. With all the DPF crap still in place. Seems a 7k pickup would get better mileage?

The gearing is probably different, which will compensate for the weight.

So far, 3 weeks into my new 08 (used w/35K), I`m averaging 17-18 on mixed driving with #1 fuel and it`s been COLD. The couple of days it was above 30, I was running closer to 20 and mine is bone stock. Good luck

You are hearing the vanes open and close at idle.
