I have a freind with one of the early 06 LLY trucks, and he wants me to do a basic tune on it to shut his EGR off, put a DSP2 in it, and a few other basic changes to it. I know on the LLY and LB7 you have to be careful changing OS's as it can screw up the ECM outputs for cruise and A/C, but what about the 06 trucks? Is it better to go in and modify his 06 LLY tune to match an LBZ, or just start off with an LBZ? I haven't pulled his base tune yet, but just trying to figure out what is the best way to get teh base tune to work with. I did a search and couldn't come with an answer as to wetehr this was safe to do or not.

I've never had a problem from swapping OSes in the 06 and newer trucks.

x2. Ive even seen 06 LLY's that already have the LBZ '6128 OS in the ECM...

And, IIRC the latest dealer software update for the 06 LLY's, I think it even says in TIS2WEB "Merge LLY and LBZ calibrations".

The whole "2006 LLY" thing was the biggest joke ever, Id give my lunch money to know the real/definitive reason why GM did it.

I was told the LLY ones they wanted to see how the motor and trans were going to hold the power so they started off with lower HP, once everything was good they bumped the power

Good to know. I can go ahead and build up the tune for him with the EGR shut-off and the other things for him in advance and flash it in. I just didn't want to go through each table one at a time to make his LLY to an LBZ.

I heard GM had not completed emissions trials in time for the 06 release so they tuned the 06 LLY as close to the 05 as they could. After the trials were complete on the LBZ they could then release to the public.

For future reference, I have found 4 distinctly different versions of the 6128 OS. There is the LLY/ALLISON, LLY/ZF6, LBZ/ALLISON, and the LLY/4L85E in the van all availaible in a 6128 OS. Had me confused as to why I was using one tune to compare off of and alot of tables were differrent between the 2, so I dug and found the 4 variations. I'm guessing the LBZ one is the one with the highest requested torque values per throttle amount.

The 6128 LBZ tune I have shows Engine Operation ID of 12606145. The most obvious table is the pedal position to desired torque table.

I got it figured out, but it caught me off guasrd when I downloaded a 6128 that was supposed to be from an LBZ to use as a comparison to a DSP5 tune, and ALOT of tables were off on the stock portion. That was when I dug and found the 4 differrent variations of it.
