I have a buddy in Vegas with a 06 3500 Damx, 30K miles on it and it won't start. Right before this happened, he had just got done racing a Dodge, went to leave and with mild (half throttle) acceleration truck blew a white puff of smoke and it died. His OBDII port didn't work, he had a MIL, but no way to check it. He has a ground out in the cig. lighter wiring, he bypassed that and removed the tuner from the truck, but didn't get the codes out before he un-installed it...He is in the same spot, crank, no start.

His mods are Bully Dog Triple Dog, 4" turbo back, FASS 150, and BD manifold. He is getting fuel to the motor mounted filter, has 1/2 tank of fuel, and no codes.

I know several of us have cracked/holed pistons, but our trucks would still start and idle. He told me he tried to start it with Either (I know, I know) and nothing, not even a stumble. He bypassed the FASS, primed the filter housing, still nothing. It will only crank, but he get's no smoke out of the exhaust when he cranks it either...

Any Ideas?

He just tried to read codes, none present. Just got off the phone with him now. The Bully Dog cleared the codes when he pulled it out... No noise at all, just a puff and the truck shut off, kind of like he ran out of fuel.

has he checked engine compartment fuses for the ecm? Crank and no start with fuel present sounds like an electrical issue

We stoped use3ing Bully Dog because they cooked our LB7's ecm, your buddies truck sounds awful familiar I hope it isn't

I have cooked my share of Lb7 ECM's with Bully Dog, but they don't just fry after almost 3 years in the truck. He has never taken it out since first install in Sep. 06.

Did he put the truck back to stock and try starting it? My 06 did this once with my PPE. Started up just fine after that.

Yes, he put it back to stock. Still no start.

Can he hear the fass running?

Fass is running, he cracked the bleed screw and fuel pissed all over the place, no air. He bi-passed the Fass, primed and bled it at the filter housing, still no start. Bi-passed the filter housing, no start. Tried either, no start. No code present, Bully Dog cleared them when he removed the tuner.

There is a way to reset the ecm on the lbz but I don't remember how. Kat had posted it on another site but I think it was for when the truck wouldn't even crank though. Disconect the batteries for 10-15 minutes and pull ecm fuse.

That link is for theft deterrent learn when swapping ECM's, If this was happening it should only crank a couple times and stop. You need to see if you have rail pressure building, 06 and 07 LBZ's have a higher incidence of internal pump failure that subsequently leads to contaminated fuel system and all injector failure.

When the engine cranks does it sound right? i.e. proper compression in all cylinders...

I have only heard it crank over the phone, it sounds normal. He hasn't described anything out of the norm as far as engine sound while it was cranking. If I can find someone with EFI in town to log, I will have them check rail pressure. He did run home brew bio for about 3 months, but that was over a year ago.

Twice mine had similar issues, crank but no start. One ended up being a bad pin where the Edge spliced in and the other was the reluctor wheel.
