'05 tail light issues?

Just curious as to the proper function of the tail lights... there are four bulbs here, top to bottom they are:
Running/brake
Turn signal
Back-up
side marker light

At least that's how mine work... the question is with the "turn signal" bulb... it's a dual filament (3157?) but I can only get one circuit to activate... which is the turn signal... is there a running light that's suppose to be activated when the headlights are on and the turn signal is off?

Second issue is the turn signal/side marker light.... when my headlights are off the two lights flash in unison (both on-both off as dictated by the electronic flasher)... however when I turn on my headlights the flash 'opposite' (turn signal on, marker off -- marker on, turn signal off)

Is all this normal?

Yes, everything you are experiencing is working perfectly. Your side marker isn't supposed to flash when the lights are off but it is a switchback when the lights are activated. I think it was stupid to use a 3157 bulb for the turn signal but not use the low/dim filament. There's a mod where you can link the running light so it works on the low filament. How long have you had the truck?

GM and Chevy most likely use the same wiring harness. Not using the blinker as a marker light is because the GM has a yellow blinker where the Chevy has an all red lens.

Thanks for the answers here guys... shoulda come here first... I spent about two hours in the driveway chasing wires to make sure something wasn't crossed...

I bought the truck about a year ago November... looked for about two years to find the right truck for us and haven't looked back...

GM and Chevy used the same harness until the new Chevy body style (03-06). If you compare 03-06 sierras to the same year silverados, the sierras don't have the side marker socket. So the harnesses are different as are the tail lights.

No problem, glad to help! I've had my 05 for 4 years now and I don't think I'll ever get rid of it. They're super dependable unless you absolutely trash it or screw it up on purpose but I love it
