so im currently working on a 05 LLY the truck is bone stock with 80K on the clock, it got towed in because it only runs while pumping the fuel primer on the filter housing. i disconnected the main fuel line to the cp3 and hooked up an electric pump with fuel out of a jug and the truck wouldnt run. if i stand there and pump the fuel primer the truck will run but as soon as i stop it shuts off. i checked all the rubber hoses for dry rot and cracks and there are no codes present.

You have one if three things going on there. 1) bad orings on the filter housing which is probably least likely. 2) bad cp3 3) too much return. Does the truck start really slow? Have you monitored rail pressure as you are cranking. There isn't a p1093 code?

If you pump the primer, then let it sit (without starting), does it stay hard? It should stay hard for quite some time (it would stay hard at least 30 minutes on my truck, and that is just the longest I tried it). If it is going soft, then there is a leak somewhere, and that is most likely your whole problem.

I wouldn't suspect the CP3 if it runs while priming the fuel system. That sounds just like a fuel leak somewhere.

yeah as long as im pumping the primer it will run perfectly, just if i stop it dies after it loses prime. i cant seem to find the leak, and i dont understand why it wont run off an electric pump only the primer

I had one that would do that, the cp3 cam was broke, the small part on end that drives the low pressure pump
