Well i have had my truck for 3 days now. It is an 05 GMC with 211k on it. Don't know the history on the truck.

Noticed today when i started it and backed up (4 degrees outside) there was a small puddle of coolant in the snow. Didn't think much of it. Got to work, drove it on lunch, parked it and came out at the end of the day and there was a puddle underneath the truck. Started it and you could almost see it dripping slightly.

Left work and began to drive home (10 mile of highway, 30 mile of stop n go). I notice right away that the temp gauge doesn't want to stay still and kept going from 160 to 185 then it would creep up towards 210 then come back down to below 185.

So about halfway into my drive home i stopped and filled up and I noticed that it wasn't leaking coolant anymore in the 5 mins that I was sitting there getting fuel. I'm kind of stumped here, I've heard it could be something to do with the heater hose behind the turbo going into the firewall but I am open to other suggestions of where to start looking.

ECT gauge readings fluctuating from ~185-~210 is normal, mine does that when OAT is below 50*, dash temp gauges are notoriously inaccurate. Hard to tell about the coolant leak, you'll probably have to crawl under the truck to see where it's coming from. Could be a bad coolant cap, bad EGR cooler, leaky hose or bad head gasket. If the coolant is orange, it probably has the factory recommended Dexcool in it. I wouldn't mix anything else with Dex as it can cause problems. If it's yellow/green, any good same color brand should work.

Upper hose is soft. trucks been sitting since 430pm in a garage that cant be more than 30 degrees. Coolant is low. And this is the best pic I can get of where the drips coming from.
