I have an electric gauge on my pillar for my transmission but it's not hooked up yet. The stepper motor in my dash is done so I wanna hook this up. How would I go about doing that? Where is the right wires for me to splice into.

I wouldn't tap into any wires. Pull the pan and install a bung for a separate sending unit. The gauge on the dash isn't exactly accurate anyways.

Yes it is.

The factory trans temp gauge and the oil pressure gauge are both accurate. The coolant temp gauge is the only gauge that is "buffered".

I say just replace the stepper motors and be done with it. Its less work that installing an aftermarket trans temp gauge. Plus, if the trans temp gauge stepper motor went out, the others (volts, oil pressure, fuel level, etc) cant be far behind.... so IMO you might as well just take the cluster apart and fix the stepper motors.

Never really hooked it up to a scanner to watch temps. Just heard a lot of people say the factory gauges are usually off a little. I've never worried about out considering I've never passed 220* and that was beating on it at the dunes. Thanks for the info :thumb:

I would use a separate sending unit in the pan. You will get a more accurate fluid temp reading. The factory sensor is on the pressure switch manifold and although pretty accurate, may not play nice with your gauge.

Just the man we were waiting to hear from. Thanks for the info mike:thumb: BTW thanks for the MLG you sold me last year and the advice when building my trans. Love the way it locks up

When your gauge reads off a separate sensor in the pan; you are reading true fluid temps which is what we are after. The factory sensor in the pressure switch is reading partial heat sink. I have found that reading true fluid temps in the pan sump will read at least 10deg cooler.
I myself want to know what the fluid temp is as that is what I'm working with.

Thank You Mike L! I guess I learn something new everyday! I'm going to keep the gauge then, and install the seperate sending unit like you had suggested as that is exactly what I am going for; true fluid temps. That'll be a huge help at monitoring what's going on down there when I start doing my passes down the strip.
