I know posted it in a thread over on TDP, but in my half-assed attempt to find it, I came up empty handed. Would you mind posting up the pics you have of it and what materials you used for it.

Also, did you "copy" that guy with the one that's similar to yours on TDP that says "Ridin' Dirty" on it? Think his name is 03stackedmax or something???

Both are sharp designs and I'd like to mock mine after y'alls when I build another one.

Thanks

It's a simple fab job. I cut all the materials out with a chop saw and then tacked it together while on the truck. I've had problems in the past with things moving around during the welding process. Anyhow, you'll need

6 feet of 3 inch box - 1/4 inch wall thickness
6 feet of 1/2 inch plate - 6 inches wide.
The front plate is 48 inches long
The tubes that go into the truck frame will need to be notched out by 1/2 of the box. this will allow them to slide underneath the round brace that runs through the front of the frame. Then I drilled out the stock tow hook bolts hole to accept two trailer hitch receiver pins. heres o couple of photos.
One note. If you can build the hang plate up a little higher it may eliminate trouble getting on the scales with your t-bars down. Hope this helps

use 4x6" angle and put it on top of the 3" tube, that'll give you a few more inches.

1/2" thick? Use that instead of the plate or weld the plate to the angle iron? Do you put it on top with the angle up or angle down to cover the front of the tubes?

We have since increased the distance in the front by 6" to help.

Todd, did you do it like stated above?

Fom the bottom bar this picture shows a 3" piece of tubing between the bottom that goes into the frame & the top that holds the flat steel. That piece has been increased to 7". No more scale or trailer rubbing

you need the lip up so the weights can hang on it.

they weld the plate on the face of the tubes so if you use angle it goes on above the tube and will give you 4" or more height over the plate.

Thanks guys, those are both really good ideas!

Tim, if I'm getting this right, you would put the 6" side up vertical, the 4" side down horizontal torwards the grill on top of the 3" tubes that come out of the truck? Then just weld caps over the front of the 3" tubes?

Is there any difference on how far you come out and then go up? What I'm getting at is Todd's come out of the vehicle, goes up, then out some more before the haning spot. If you were to come straight out, then put the angle iron on top to mount are you getting the same clearance or would it matter? I'm having a hard time trying to describe what I want to say. Like, assuming both are aimed at being 5' in front of the axle, with an imaginary torq arm the z shape of Todds would get more clearance than the straight shot out, right? Would this same imaginary torq arm have much affect when pulling or does it not matter as long as you are 5' out?

yes put 6" side up (depending on type of weights). the distance is what matters that's why they limit the length and that's to the farthest point, so you need you weights first. don't build it for 70# IH weights then hang 100# weights on it and some one will complain or get disqualified. If you've got the iron, saw and welder make it like Todd's but if you don't have a saw just order the stock to size and weld it up.

what weights are you using? the height makes the difference, lay a 70# on top of a 100#.

after a closer look at Todd's if he's using 6" strap and you use 6" angle setting on top you'll be same height off ground. notice his strap is on top of the tube coming out of frame.

I havnt decided on weights for sure yet. We have JD weights, but they are heavy and we usually just leave them mounted on the tractors. I have a landlord that has the old style case/IH (red) weights laying around all over the place that I thought I would use, but he always thinks things are worth new price when they've been layin in the weeds for the last 10 years.

I see that too now that you mention it. It would be a lot easier for no more than I pull as of right now. I wonder what the cost difference is between the angle iron and flat steel? That will probablly determine which way I go. And availability.....

Started life without the 64"X6"X1/2" plate along the front. Bought the bar from Todd, he can give you any particular likes/dislikes. I like it, I hang Kubota 105lb. weights. $56/each from local dealer.

Todd, I see you're set up to hang weights off the top of the "Z", behind the front plate. Do you guys ever hang any weights there on the drivers side?

can you get them for $50 on the 100#?

price keeps going up on them so unless he's priced them lately it may be a good deal.

I'm hoping to get them for $40! I'm going to try to get him to just go off of weigh-up price, but I guess I dont know what iron is worth per lb right now?
