I have heard good and bad things about it

I am about to rip out this Allison for a ZF6

I have a 60 mile round trip commute and I try to drive calm to get good mileage but when I do want to put the squeeze on the throttle it shifts like crap. The other day I was surprised it didn't blow the tranny in half it shifted so damn hard.

It is really getting old

I was thinking about getting a EFI liscense for the TCM and going to a 01 tune.

The 01 is is worth it in my book, no doubt. Our CC truck picked up almost .4 @ the track with no change other than a tcm tune. It dosent flip out everytime you reflash the truck or use the truck to tow with one day and drive to work another day and then race the next either, though it will still shift bad with bad tuning!

I just put a 02 tune on my SC III with a 500rw tune, it still shifts about the same at wot. It seemed like it fixed some of the clunks and hard shifts at very low throttle. After driving it for a day or so I think the half throttle shifts are going back to the manual shift feel where it noses foward.

Does anyone know exactly what the 01 tune does?

IIRC, the 01 OS was completely different from every other TCM , including the 02. Maybe I should try it...it may solve my shifting issues.

it fixed my shifting Tom, I would give it a try. Mine shifted horrible after my build and as soon as I swapped to the 01 I could immediately tell a difference;)

I was told that the 01 has less adaptive learn capabilities. It doesn't respond to different driving styles as much as a newer tune with more adaptive learn. It doesn't have od lockout and that is the only down fall I have with it. I run one and am very pleased with it.

So if I load a 01 OS into my truck, I lose the OD lockout function? I think Ive only used that function on the dyno since I bought my truck, and you can command OD to lockout using a Tech2 when dynoing anyway. Think I'll give it a whirl when I get the chance.

One question I do have....isnt every tune you load into your truck supposed to have your truck VIN associated with it? If so, how do you change that in the TCM tune you use? I wouldnt think its as easy as scripting the tune using, in my case, my stock 2003 TCM tune.

The TCM tune I received from my tuner (which I thought was a good tune..but ended up being a bit dangerous for the trans as it turned out) had my VIN associated because he started with my stock TCM tune.

I am pretty sure if you do a full reflash the vin doesn't matter. I just loaded an 01 tune in mine and my brother's. Never had a problem. I shorten the shift timing on my tunes. I like the way they shift better.

OD lockout is still there if you have the latest flash version of the 2001 OR 2002 OS, it just works on a remote switch. If you check KENNEDY's site he has the directions there to hook up the switch and indicator light.

Did anyone else get a clunk on the downshift into first gear when running it on an 05? I didn't like the 01 TCM so I took it back off.
