is there a known mod to keep an 01 from eating HIDs? mine goes through them quickly and I am guessing because of the off and on at start up. Any help is appreciated. thanks

I gave up on hids after fighting them for 3 years.. The 01-02 range seemed to be pretty reliable usually

I'd get a quality kit. I suggest Morimoto or Spencer's. I"ve had the same Morimoto kit for 3 years on 3 different trucks with no relays. Never once had a problem.

yup, you put a resistor inbetween the two wires for the sensor on your dash. you will have to search/google it as i have forgotten what resistance the resistor needs to be to defeat it but ive had mine that way for 6-7 years now

What does eating them mean every month? I wonder if it isn't another issue. Lots of guys have auto headlights and they don't eat HIDs. Hell on top of that my alarm flashes my lights twice when I leave my truck running and lock/unlock it. My understanding is that flashing HIDs while they're cold isn't a big deal, but it hard on them after they are warm.

Isolate them from the truck electrical on their own relays and see if it keeps happening.

Also, what kind of HIDs are you using?

I usually get at least 1.5-2yrs out of a set of the cheap chinese $35/pair 6000K HID's.

This is what I am talking about, I remember seeing it a long time ago but cant fuind it.

There is nothing else wrong with the truck, HIDs just dont last longer than 6 months and I dont drive the truck that much. They always flicker when starting the truck and eventually stop turning on.

the cheapies dont like flickering, specially without relays. im still on the same VVME HIDs from 6-7 years go and only replaced one ballast. not bad for 50 bucks

What do you mean by flicker? A real flicker or the standard lights coming on with the Ing. then off when you bump the starter then on again? Like I said flashing HID when their cold doesn't hurt them. My lights flash every time I start my truck at home since its in the garage. IIRC they last 3 years.
