    BBC teardown and diagnosis

I just dealt with aeration in the hydraulic system on one of my forklifts. Root cause => clogged strainer. Symptoms, besides the aeration, was a loss of hydraulic pressure. A cavitating pump will aerate the oil and drop your pressure. But, what do I know.

    Diesel pre detonation?

Sounds like not enough air for the fuel load. Knocks like hell when that happens. Basically, your putting the fire out in the cylinder.

Current record for the Oval Race Cast pistons!

FWIW. I've been running the Dynomite oval pattern injectors with very good results. Once I dial in my turbo tables again, I'll finish my review.

Current record for the Oval Race Cast pistons!

Most ovals die because of other engine parts hitting them. I think you should name the engine "Lazarus". :ROFLMAO:

I usually slather Nickle NeverSeez on anything exhaust related. I wonder if I should switch to copper. For Aluminum to Stainless contact, Noalox seems to work very well.

    Dynamite oval pattern injectors

There are a number of reasons. One is access to the back side. Especially on the driver's side, there is no room to get to the back. Second was an obvious intent to use the OEM gaskets. Which places this hole against the body of the manifold in the back. Lastly, no one anticipates rusted and...

    Dynamite oval pattern injectors

These are ProFab Castflow manifolds. I'll make a precision drill guide, bolt it to the flange, and drill out the offending bold. Worst case, I'll put the manifold on the mill.

    Dynamite oval pattern injectors

Considering I own a CNC Machine shop, I don't think getting it out will be an issue. Access to it is the problem.

    Dynamite oval pattern injectors

Bolt protrudes out the back of the flange and is rotted. Bad. Used the bore-scope to look since you can't see it any other way. I actually got it to turn 1/4 turn befire it locked up hard,

    Dynamite oval pattern injectors

I'm still in White Oak, PA. Motor is coming out. Too much needs massaged. Should have done it in the first place. Now I have to get engine crane, stand and what not pulled out of the clutter to do the pull. Oh, and look, there is a dmax short block (not oval bowl) on the stand now.. Gotta move...

    Dynamite oval pattern injectors

Decision Point: I've managed to get all the stuck bolts and such out except this one on the driver's side manifold. I've been massaging it for a week, but today I met failure. I will now have to pull the motor...... Damn. There just isn't enough room for my fat hands to work on this side. All...

I am cautiously optimistic. I was never happy with the injectors that are in it now, but ran out of give a $hit..

    Dynamite oval pattern injectors

I'm trying out a set of Dynomite's oval pattern injectors on my truck. It has been some 10 years since I did Anything on the engine, and it shows. Right now I'm fighting stuck bolts and clamps, but discovered my bollows are blown on the up-pipes too. What other joys await me!?

Looking for a picture and the difference of the LB7 and the later style pistons.

FWIW, Delipping a piston does not make it stronger. You are removing material. What you are mainly doing is reducing the compression ratio. In most cases, a whole point in compression. IF delipping was removing a riser, then those with lips would be cracking at the lip. Instead, they are...

Looking for a picture and the difference of the LB7 and the later style pistons.

Cast pistons are vulnerable to flash cooling cracking. If you lose cooling and then it come back on, or heat them up quickly from cold, the sudden temp change will pop the piston. So, run your truck hard to the top of a hill and drop to idle, you are hard cycling the pistons. Cold engine...

    Fuel Pressure Issues

Most likely the FPR shuttle sticking. But don't rule out a bad electrical connection. Seems to be common after rebuilds when the engine/pump has sat for a while. Remove the FPR, remove shuttle, clean everything with carb cleaner and back together.

HELP!!! TRUCK ONLY RUNS ON ALL 8 WITH VALVE COVER OFF

Total WAG here, but I would guess the leads off the injector with the broken separator were contacting the cover. In his picture, the bottom lug is turned down and bent in towards the head.

HELP!!! TRUCK ONLY RUNS ON ALL 8 WITH VALVE COVER OFF

Funny story. When I built one of my engines, I had all the aluminum parts tumbled in ceramic media. (Polishing rocks) When I put the engine together I hand turned the engine over and one of the valves was stuck open. (oh damn!) Cover off, turns fine. Cover on, valve stuck. Turns out one of the...
