    LBZ: Stock Rebuild

I deleted my EGR cooler but I wanted to keep my grid heater so I built a bracket to block off and support the intake. Tried to come up with a clean solution that wouldn’t be a pile of time/money.

    LBZ: Stock Rebuild

Here are a couple pictures along the way. I have a ton from disassembly, not too many going back together. I cut a 2x4 to wedge up under the front of the engine to take some weight the final day of assembly. My stand really wasn’t meant for this.

    LBZ: Stock Rebuild

Well just to check in, I ran this up to temp for the first time today. First start was a couple of weeks ago.. just bare minimum to get it running and make sure that nothing was majorly wrong. Probably only ran it for 20 sec if that. I wanted to prime the oil system before that first start so...

LLY Rebuild - Break in Procedure

What is the best method for priming the system? I see Melling makes a product that uses air to pressurize the oil system. Is something like this worth it?

Makes sense. Yes I was referring to valve protrusion. That’s for the info.

Bolts. Figured studs were a little overkill for what I am doing. Couldn’t justify the cost.

    LBZ: Stock Rebuild

Sorry, the original measurements that I posted in post #24 are listed rear/front, not front rear as stated. That it where most of the discrepancy lies. The variance outside of that I blame on rounding due to the fact that I should be using something with better resolution. Original...

    LBZ: Stock Rebuild

This is where I’m at right now. I have one head here ready to assemble and the other at the machine shop that I’ll pick up next week. I had a glow plug stuck in each head so I ended up buying a kit from time-sert kit to repair the threads that got damaged. I bought a set of PPE factory length...

    LBZ: Stock Rebuild

So I re-took these measurements. I still ended up using the same setup. I cant hold my .0005 indicator on the mag base. I'm comfortable with these numbers. I found TDC, zeroed on the block, measured three times while rocking back and forth, re-confirmed zero and then repeated the process on the...

    LBZ: Stock Rebuild

You mean real math haha? You are certainly correct. My bad. I’ve corrected it. I will retake my measurements while applying less force. I have a .0005 indicator on hand and I should be able to make up a sled as shown without too much trouble if I can’t find something locally. Is it normal to...

    LBZ: Stock Rebuild

No, the rods were not checked. That was the one thing that I didn’t do as I didn’t really have the means to do it. I guess ultimately I made the assumption that they “should” be fine and went with it. I could have had the machine shop do it, but I really didn’t think there would be any issue. It...

    LBZ: Stock Rebuild

So after a bit of a hiatus over the summer and then a long wait for a back ordered bearing I have gotten back into this. I have assembled the bottom end and I measured protrusion this afternoon using a dial bore gauge on a magnetic base. My measurements concern me a tad and I’m looking for a...

    LBZ: Stock Rebuild

So I’ve been looking at the GM part numbers. Connecting Rod Bearings 19209593 - Green 97250338 - Yellow Main Bearings 19256552 - Blue 97386927 - Black 97386937 - Brown I have a mix of green and yellow for my rod bearings. Mains are black and what I thought was red, but I can find anything on...

    LBZ: Stock Rebuild

I was initially going to go with "p" series bearing but I think I will upgrade to "h" after seeing the bearings that came out. How do I order these when I have a mix of rods (A and B)? I have not seen this as an option for the "h" series bearings anywhere although I have seen it for the "p".

    LBZ: Stock Rebuild

What causes this pattern on the bearing? A lot of the top rod bearings have a similar wear on them. Is it a breakdown from fatigue? Or contamination?

    FLIR / Thermal Imager

It looks like the Flir software will upload the images to the asset as you complete your route, which saves you some time on the back end. Saves you from manually sorting through the images. From what I could tell Fluke doesn’t have that option yet but it looks like they are working on it so...

    FLIR / Thermal Imager

What made you guys go with Fluke over Flir? I was looking for a new camera at work in that price range and it seems like Flir is still a bit ahead of the pack. Software seems a little bit better with some more options like the route planning.

    FLIR / Thermal Imager

They are actually looking for a variation between tear duct temperature and skin temperature (with proper training anyways). Like you mention there are too many variables to take into account to go off of skin temperature alone.

    LBZ: Stock Rebuild

So I have been slowly plugging away at this. Work and yard work has gotten in the way a little bit. Block is at the machine shop. I had a little bit of scoring on cylinder #1 so he will see how much he needs to take before I order pistons but it shouldn't be much. I started cleaning some bits...

    LBZ: Stock Rebuild

No I don’t suspect so. Crack looks pretty clean. One tiny little piece missing. I think the pump is probably fine, it’s more a peace of mind thing. A new pump will only run a few hundred dollars.
