    A thank you for those that responded. I removed the cable and the e-clip that holds the 2 halves together failed and got wedged in the cable housing. A couple of strands of the outer wrapping broke and ended up wedging in the housing as well. All of this was discovered in an attempt to repair...

    Thank you gentlemen. I will search out a new cable. Once installed I will report back but I am sure this will resolve my problem.

    I have pulled the cable at the NSBU switch and the lever on the switch moves freely. I was able to easliy shift to N and start the vehicle. I assume the cable is bad/broken. It looks like the cable might be a 2 piece unit (correct?) Again thanks for the quick replies

    My 01 Chev w/Allison has a hard time getting into gear when cold. The shift lever is almost frozen and it takes some effort to move it. Today -22 it was unusually hard but I was able to get it in reverse then forward and driven w/o problems to work (15 minutes), when I tried to shit to park...
