    6 speed Allison 2wd to 4wd

    I am working on converting my 2006 Allison 1000 6 speed 2wd to 4x4 and I read that I can use the output shaft and tail housing from a 01-05 5 speed Allison. Is this correct. Also, am I able to do this swap without removing the transmission? Thanks
