    '82 Duramax Swap Pictures

I disassembled everything, beadblasted most parts, & painted everything in pieces before bolting it back together. The link below in my signature shows a lot of the pieces. I originally was just going to put the engine in completely assembled, but after using over $30 of aluminum cleaner...

    "New Bike" is sweet.

KTM's are great bikes, I always wanted one. You got to love the 2 strokes, the throttle response & brutal powerband always made them so much fun to ride. I cannot believe they will soon be a thing of the past. Damn tree huggers..... I still have my 250R Suzuki quad & will probably never...

    Head Gasket Question

Depending on the discount you can work with your dealer, gaskets are approx $90-110 each side. Took me almost 2 weeks to get one from GM. Bolts are about $40-50/side. Copper injector washers (LLY) about $2.25 each. Injector o-rings (LLY) about $8 ea. (ripoff considering a normal o-ring costs...

    Head Gasket Question

I just found this info concerning the gasket selection on an Isuzu bulletin. I do not have actual dimensions, but I would assume based on the following info, that the gaskets are in order of increasing thicknesses of approx. 0.002" Cylinder Head Gasket Selection Grade------Right...

    Gearing

Torsens are good units, but I personally have no experience with the AAM 11.5. I will be using the 14 bolt 10.5" rear as that was the 3/4 & 1 ton rear used in my series of truck. In this case, the Detroit Locker is the way to go. They clunk a little, but are virtually indestructable...

    Gearing

I have seen tons of problems with gov-locks in nearly every appplication that they were installed. I do not know why GM/anyone insists on still using them. Unfortunately that little pencil sized shaft must limit rotation of the outer gear to cause the clutches to lock. The quantity of...

    Head Gasket Question

Two rear bolts are behind the flywheel/flexplate ring gear & it's too close to get a socket or wrench in there. Did you remove the pan or did someone else? Please elaborate on how you did this as it could help others in his situation.

    Head Gasket Question

Thanks Mitch. I set the engine in tonight & got it bolted to the trans. Now I have to make a crossmember for the motor mounts as they sit very low in the frame. All the clearances seem OK for the exhaust & surprisingly the oil filter clears as well. I still need to install all the top end...

    Head Gasket Question

I build those Z06's all the time. They are about 1/2 the price. Example: Head studs $250 Head gaskets under $100 Cam under $400 CNC ported heads under $2500 with all new valves & springs. Makes Corvettes seem like economy builds.

    Head Gasket Question

Kat, Thanks for all your help. I keep learning more things everyday.... even stuff I never thought I would be involved in. For example: 1. How weak the oil pans are... 2. How the flywheel has to come off to remove the oil pan (another reason I think automotive engineers should have to...

    Aftermarket fluid dampners Y/N?

ATI is the only brand I use on my race engine builds. They are rebuildable which is also nice. The SFI approval is necessary if they start checking you for safety equipment at the track you run at. The NHRA requires them for any vehicle in the 10's, but some tracks are not that critical...

    Head Gasket Question

Something else to think about.... My engine has a "B" gasket on 1 side & a "C" on the other. I spoke with a dealer mechanic that said the gaskets are sometimes different on the same engine. They must hand select them based on the deck clearance for each side on the engine. Anyone else...

    Aftermarket fluid dampners Y/N?

ATI makes a very nice SFI approved one for the Duramax.

    Tight spot rotating engine

I consider this intermediate luck. Good would be, nothing ever happened, Bad, if it blew up, So I'll take this as intermediate. It cost me under $150 this way for some bolts & a head gasket. Just could not talk myself into the studs though... those are outrageously priced. If I had a...

What programs do you find helpful for EFI Live?

When the 3.5" drives first came out, a guy I worked with, folded the 5-1/4" in half & stuck it in the 3.5" drive & asked me why it did not work. He definitely was not to smart.... but entertaining. Lonnie
