When I first looked at the new topics, I thought it said Fore Skins. I thought WTF are they talking about now.

I'll try my best... Q1) Do you have a complete donor vehicle? If so, where do you recommend a fella look for one at? If not, what are the essential components I will need? For instance, do I really need the ignition switch or BCM or gauge cluster, etc. or can I get away with just the ECM...

    4l80E can this be done

If it is a 4L80, it is definitely an "E". They are all electronic. #1. Quadzilla Shift Kit - Full manual shifts - the transmission will be in the gear you select and changes to any gear you choose when you move the selector. No computer or wiring needed, rated at 900 + horse power and has...

    4l80E can this be done

The trans absolutely will not work without a trans controller. The controller controls every gear change, line pressure & converter lockup. As I stated in your other transmission thread, the only other option is a manual valve body where you have to shift every gear like a manual trans. Lonnie

    Whats the differnce.

From some of the diesel to gas conversions I've done, the converters are very tight. They are lucky to stall to 1600 behind an average 350 due to the lack of low end torque. They will work, but remember many gas engines are not drilled for the 6 lug converter. Your biggest problem will be...

    Whats the differnce.

Maximum stall speed is directly related to engine torque. If your gas engine makes less torque, it will stall less as well.

    Whats the differnce.

You will also need a different computer to properly control your trans, or you will need to swap to a manual valve body. Lonnie

    What would you do?

Besides, money in the bank is too easy to get to.... the urge to buy another toy always happens when I look at the bank statement.

    What would you do?

I just paid mine off as I did not like the worry of having a montly bill just to keep my house. I then took the equivalent of my mortgage payment & maxed out my 401K. This way my contribution lessens my taxable income & I can save more money this way. For example, lets say 1/3 of your...

    Air in fuel system

Thanks, I planned to bleed the lines up to the CP3, but the rails will be dry out to the injectors. I can live with 30 seconds, but i did not want to fry the starter.

    Air in fuel system

How hard will an engine be to start if the CP3 & rails are dry? I had all this stuff off the engine. I will fill the lines & filters to this point, but how much cranking before it will run? Should I leave an injector line loose & crank it first? Trying to avoid the diesel fuel bath if possible.

Simon, Any word on the trans dip sticks? I definitely do not have room for the stock one.... too bad I spent so much time painting it. I posted 30 more pictures in the engine & body section of my site below. I'm finally running out of things to paint.

    water/meth question

Another question would be, what methanol/water ratio can you use without problems on a diesel engine? I always run straight methanol in my Camaro to support a lot of boost on pump fuel (I can get inlet temps below ambient), but on a gas engine it is always way on the rich side of the air/fuel...

    '82 Duramax Swap Pictures

Simon, Cool..... I definitely need one. Do you want me to provide them dimensions? I'll need one very soon. Tinman, Thanks for the compliments. The swap is turning out to be a large amount of work, but I believe it will be a very good swap once done. The hardest part is determining...

I do not see one for the Allison trans, but it seems to have the same lower seal as the Th400. Worst case I can use one of those & re-mark the Full/Add lines to match the stock stick. Managed to get it on the frame without a single scratch in spite of the 50mph winds we had today. Covered...

I finally got the cab set in place after all this time. With a 1" body lift the trans clears the floor by maybe 1.5" at the closest point. I knew I was cutting it close. The dipstick was causing some grief at the firewall, so I'll try to get a Lokar flexible one. This allowed me to move...

Mitch, Thanks, I appreciate the info. I've been on that site, but never joined. I'll look into it & see what happens. Obviously, I have a lot of work to do before I can show any finished pictures... plus spending another huge stack of cash (more stressful than the actual work) before it is...

What About All The Other O-rings/gaskets?

The injector copper washers are only a little over $2 ea. The upper o-rings are $8ea. Since they are basically dust seals, metric washers at a local parts store will fit about $0.75ea. Just bought this stuff last week from GM. I would definitely buy the o-rings for the water pump to...

Thanks guys, I put about 20 more pictures in the engine section at the link below. I'm starting to wonder if I can get any diesel magazines interested in an article.... Anyone have any connections? Lonnie
