New toy - Not a Duramax but it still smokes

Now you are making me wish I had the multi-fuel engine. I'm stuck with the diesel only 6mpg variety.

New toy - Not a Duramax but it still smokes

It is a strange top for sure... I'll try to get you a picture. Spent the day changing antifreeze & flushing the cooling system. Took forever to get it clean. 8 gallons... takes quite a while to flush, drain & refill.

New toy - Not a Duramax but it still smokes

The trucks are cheap, but the parts add up fast. I figured I paid for new tires & wheels, then basically got the truck for free... Lol. If you like old Willys/Jeeps, I have access to one. Not military though.

New toy - Not a Duramax but it still smokes

Small world... I join a military forum & see people from here. No lockers that I know of... I'd take a few spare lockers if you know of any...lol. Have not researched where the truck came from yet. I do need some small item, I'll be in touch.

New toy - Not a Duramax but it still smokes

It isn't fast, but after having it at 65mph, I'm not sure I would want to go much faster anyway... Those tires are supposed to be 55mph max speed. I would like to try it out in the mud, but after spending a whole day cleaning it, I doubt it will be off road. May try it out in the snow this...

New toy - Not a Duramax but it still smokes

Yes I'm told you can only increase it about 50hp safely. I would like to clean up the smoke with a little more air. It even smokes on the level at cruise speeds. The newer ones have a 500ci turbo engine which is a little better on power & fuel. I wanted the old style nostalgic military look...

New toy - Not a Duramax but it still smokes

Its a 5ton AM General Gets about 5-8mpg depending on how you drive it. I can see the $100 in fuel I put in today is not going very far. Has an 855 ci Cummins (no turbo) w/ 5 speed & 2 speed transfer case. Have a turbo for it, when I get ambitious. I could use some more power. Axles are 6.44...

New toy - Not a Duramax but it still smokes

Got a new toy today (to me anyway, its a '72). Still getting used to it but definitely a blast to drive. Over 10ft tall & over 20,000lb. You actually look down at tractor trailers when you pass them on the road.

    '82 Duramax Swap Pictures

The cable bracket interferes with the metal dash piece below the bezel... you must cut it to clear. The plastic bezel is much smaller than the new column. You could likely make a leather/vinyl sleeve to cover the pivot point of the steering column.

    '82 Duramax Swap Pictures

Actually I mounted the new column with the existing mounting holes to the old dash rods/brackets. Note how they are aligned in the picture. Using the new column allows the trans shift cable to be easily used & the detents are in the correct place. Not sure how easy the old column would...

I'm still here.... the truck is still not finished. My business has me swamped & there is little time for my own projects. Just finishing up the Firebird at the moment. The car wasn't supposed to take a year to finish... Then I can get back to the truck.

    Old Silent movies

I have some old 3 Stooges and Tom & Jerry cartoons. Haven't thought about them in years. Fun to watch if you can stand all the projector noise & no sound.
