    Considering DD'ing 350k mile LB7?

I've never had too much trouble tuning a LBZ FPR in a stock CP3, but my 12mm CP3 with LBZ reg did give me some trouble. Still can't get it to follow rail as close as I like on a snap decel (end of a 1/4 run for example). It will hang high for a few frames, then undershoot and come back to...

    Considering DD'ing 350k mile LB7?

The LBZ FPR uses a square slot in the plunger, while the LB7/LLY regulator uses a triangle slot. The square slot has more area, so the newer regulator will flow a bit more fuel. Not a huge amount, but the costs are similar, so why not use the newer one if you're replacing it anyway. As for the...

    Considering DD'ing 350k mile LB7?

No, it's all in the tune. The tune can be set as soft or aggressive as desired. I usually keep torque below 2000 RPM close to stock, and I usually soften up throttle response below 1/3 throttle a bit too. I find it is smoother to drive on rough roads and off-road. Above half throttle is where...

    LB7: Intermittent AC

That's what I use. Ironically, the Tech2 doesn't show A/C high side pressure, but EFILive does.

    LB7: Intermittent AC

Sounds like it is time for a scan tool. See if the ECU is receiving an A/C request or not. See what it sees for high side pressure. (Low side switch will present as a lack of A/C command despite the control module showing A/C on.)

    Considering DD'ing 350k mile LB7?

My brother had a truck with +60% VCO injectors and a Silver Bullet 66mm turbo on a stock bottom end. It was a RIOT to drive. Had the stock CP3, which kept power down, but it would come on so hard it ended up spinning the balancer on the crank. You can blow up a stock bottom end on stock...

    mysterious coolant system issue

If the cooling system isn't drawing a vacuum when cold (collapsing the upper radiator hose), then it is pulling in air somewhere as it cools. The theory is the only place to let fluid in/out of the system is the expansion tank, which captures excess coolant as it expands, then pulls it back in...

    Oil cooling

James, can you measure the plug on the older oil cooler too? Is it a M20x1.5? I'm getting ready to steal KidTurbo's idea and use the fuel temp sensor to measure oil temperature now that it is warming up.

    LB7: Intermittent AC

Have you thrown gauges and a scan tool on it? Without gauges to see the pressures and a scan tool to see what the computer is trying to do, it is really hard to diagnose. In many states, auto part stores (Autozone, O'Reilly, etc.) will lend A/C gauges. Even without a scan tool, the gauges will...

Need help.. outta patience.. outta ideas..

X2 My truck had a hard 2 --> 1 shift when cold on the latest build. The shop said one of the clutch pack tolerances was set super tight, and that it should adapt it out, but if not, bring it back and they'd loosen up that pack. I forget which pack, because in my case, it did learn and shifts...

    Considering DD'ing 350k mile LB7?

I always change the valve cover bolts out because the stupid Allen heads strip out on me. My truck and Suburban use stainless steel bolts, but my brother just did his truck with e-torx bolts off a BMW, and they're really slick. It's almost impossible to strip an e-torx. Next time I open one of...

LB7 Range Shift Inhibited? Recently rebuilt the transfer case..

Check the wiring to the VSS on the transfer case. Since you just messed with the transfer case, that's the most likely thing to have been disturbed. If that isn't the problem, you'll need a good scan tool to read the transmission codes.

    Duramax Suburban Value

You can do tunes by mail on a gas rig. Grab the latest EFILive software, update your V2 firmware, and pull the stock tune off and post it here (well, maybe make a new thread). You don't need a VIN license to read out a tune. Gas motors are actually quite a bit easier to tune than the diesels...

    Fuel level sensor

The beds aren't that heavy. I replaced the one on my truck with 3 friends, but I recommend 4 friends. 2 people on each side can lift it off easily, plus one more person to get the filler neck in/out without catching. When I did it, I pulled double duty lifting the front left of the bed AND...

    Fuel level sensor

As a point to consider, RockAuto has the OEM fuel sender for $233, vs. $128 for just the level sensor. The flex hoses tend to crack over time, so it is worth considering replacing the whole unit, IMO. I had to replace the one in my truck when the suction hose cracked and it started pulling air...

LB7: Help requested - Tech 2 question on an A/C parameter

Huh, I thought I remembered it being available on the Tech2, but it is not. I'm running NAO 33.004, and no A/C high side pressure anywhere. It does work through EFILive, so that's probably how you'll have to go if you need the raw number. The Tech2 only displays A/C clutch command On/Off state.

LB7: Help requested - Tech 2 question on an A/C parameter

The LB7 does have a pressure transducer, and it is readable over the data bus. I use EFILive to read it, so I don't know if the Tech2 can display it or not. If I get some free time today (don't count on it...) I'll try it with the Tech2 and let you know where I find it, if I find it. You might...

    Chevy1925 (James) Truck/motor build

Woot! You running the rings that loose because of the boost you plan to run, or the sustained heat on your crazy hill climbs? I set all mine quite a bit tighter (around 15 or 16 IIRC), but they're not the stainless rings, so who knows what they're at now LOL

    Considering DD'ing 350k mile LB7?

You don't need to replace the cups, just re-seal them. They're stainless steel and rarely take any damage. Inspect the sealing surfaces closely, both the cups and the head. No need to blindly replace them all. I wouldn't be surprised if all your cups are in perfect condition after cleaning. DO...
