    Chevy1925 (James) Truck/motor build

Sweet! Pretty cool having a lathe to do that yourself. I have a really old lathe (circa 1910) that I picked up for a song, but as far as I can tell, it only does American threads. You have to swap gears on the side of it to change threads per inch, and I only have the 2 that were on it, so...

Ever Get a Speeding Ticket When You Positively Were Not Speeding?

I agree that he was speeding and does deserve a ticket, but he was written up for a speed he wasn't going, and doesn't deserve that ticket. (I am giving OP the benefit of the doubt here, we only have his version of this story. But I'm assuming he's telling the truth for the moment.) What seems...

Ever Get a Speeding Ticket When You Positively Were Not Speeding?

I have had this happen to me before as well, with the same attitude from the cop every time. Now I don't argue no matter how ridiculous what they say is, sign the ticket, and deal with it later. I was able to get one dismissed in court, and another dismissed with a driving class (cheaper than...

    Considering DD'ing 350k mile LB7?

I think it should still line up the same.

    Seriously?

I have a strong love-hate thing with the Cruze. Bought one new in 2013, put 60,000 miles on it and grew pretty tired of it. Sold it to my brother and bought a 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP. It wasn't a bad car so much as it failed to be a good car. Hence the love hate thing. I can't point to any...

    Considering DD'ing 350k mile LB7?

Never used primer, just put it on and tightened down the injectors.

    Considering DD'ing 350k mile LB7?

It is, it'll be done quicker than you expect. Plus as you start seeing it get close it feels easier and easier, at least for me.

    LB7: LB7 rail pressure problem

That really sounds like a bad CP3 or injectors returning too much fuel. You can try to replace the FPR, but I would do a return test first. If the return rates are in spec, then you could try a new regulator. But I suspect the CP3 is toast.

LLY: CCV Scavenging VS Vented to Atmosphere

Yeah, when I built my motor, I powdercoated everything, and took the factory separator apart to clean after coating. It is really simple. PCV comes in from the left side and hits a single baffle to force the vapor/oil to turn hard downward. The liquid oil (mostly) falls out of suspension and...

LLY: CCV Scavenging VS Vented to Atmosphere

Interested in how this works out. I have a LB7 (built in catch can and oil drainback to pan), and it just vents to the bottom front of the motor. On my stock motors, this works perfect, but on my built motor, it has enough blowby that I can smell the PCV vapors at idle through the A/C (or...

    Million mile 2007 duramax

Please do film the odometer rollover, and the 1 mile afterwards. I have heard multiple places report the instrument cluster dies at 1M or 1,000,001 miles, and I am curious if that is true, and what it looks like when it happens. If true, I really wonder if it was intentional (to prevent...

    Considering DD'ing 350k mile LB7?

I usually get a top end gasket set from Mahle and it includes #20. The GM dealer will probably be able to get that part, otherwise you'll have to get a set that contains it. The LDS set might or might not have that o-ring. AllData should have diagrams like that. Some sort of service information...

LB7: Can't get it to start.

23 MPa should be enough to start. I like to see 30 MPa, but 23 should be enough to fire the injectors. The 2 missed cam reference pulses is probably the real issue here. The ECU needs to know the cam position to determine which cylinder to fire, and if it isn't getting good cam + crank data, it...

    Help me further my debt!

We use gooseneck hitches on the farm, might be a bit different with a 5th. Two of our trucks have B&W hitches, and 2 have Curt. The Curt is hands down a better hitch, and it is cheaper (go figure). The Curt has thicker metal, bigger brackets to the frame, and is easier to use. I run air bags...

    Considering DD'ing 350k mile LB7?

Depends on how much play. A tiny amount is normal, but if you think it could hit the housing, probably not long for this world. If you leave the wastegate stock (no boost fooler added in line) and avoid heavy throttle, that should buy you quite a bit of time. What's hardest on the turbo isn't...

    Considering DD'ing 350k mile LB7?

I agree in principle about resealing the cups. That said, on banks where every cup stays put, I've always just left them and been fine. But I know I'm rolling the dice, so if you leave them and one leaks, remember you chose to take that risk. I always have used hi-temp threadlocker red on the...

Lb7 lopes when I command max rail pressure?

It's hard to say if it is normal or not. Every LB7 I've messed with runs rough at max rail pressure at idle. It is hard to specify exactly how rough is normal though. I do know that at 80 MPa all of them seem to idle just fine. When you command the change, they may shake for a split second, and...

    Chevy1925 (James) Truck/motor build

Yeah, the 01-02 Chevy HD is probably my favorite, closely followed by the 03-07 classic GMC. That's a sharp looking truck James!

    LB7 Drop-In's

EGTs come from the fuel to air ratio. The more air you move for a fixed amount of fuel, the lower the EGTs will be. So any turbo that moves more air will result in lower EGTs. Tuning plays a part too, as advanced injection timing moves some of the heat from the exhaust to the coolant/oil and...
