Well a balance rate would tell you where the issue hole is no? And if that matches up with the area of the noise…….cut it out and see how balance rates change should tell you if you’re cutting out the right hole. Or unplug them one at a time.
Buddy had a local come to his hotel with an Autel scanner and did some tests. #8 cylinder was the one doing the knocking. Changed out the injector, still knocking. Cut the cyl out and it goes away.

Buddy has the Autel. It works pretty good. Bluetooth to the dongle that plugs in the OBD port. Only thing I couldn’t find was cyl contribution testing and obviously it can’t flash but can do most everything else a guy needs.
He had it at all bay diesel in Oakland and they tried to sell him an engine rebuild but couldn’t even tell him what his balance rates were or compression so I dunno.
It only had a 265 on it before so the percent it was out was pretty close to the difference in tire size.
Now that I run a 34” tire and corrected it for the speedo it’s way out.
I’ll look again tonight and see if I can find the table but if someone finds it first that would be sweet.

I feel like I saw a table I could tweak to get my mpg and range more accurate but can’t find it now. Maybe I was dreaming?
MPG and range went way out after adjusting my speedo for my tire size. Was within .5 mpg, now it’s out by almost 3. Kinda annoying.

Rebuild the filter head and huck a new filter at it. Then find some diesel 911 and put that in the tank. You just fixed your problem fairly cheaply if it’s either of those two things.
