Default Thermostat

Was wondering if I took out my thermostats for the summer time, how would the engine act to it? It's been running 200 deg plus & the weather is just starting to get hot. Any ideas?

Normal operating temp is about 210 on the dash gauge. When you see less, the thermostats even aren't open yet. If you start seeing over 225, then you might issues. I have lower temp thermostats that are intended for racing, but they won't fix overheating, and might lower your fuel economy. The engine will protect itself from actual overheating, which is about 250 deg.

Diesels actually like it hot. It gives you a more complete burn.

Both gas engines and diesel engines get their best mileage when hot. It's a thermodynamic thingy. If you are using fuel to heat water, then disposing of that heat into the atmosphere, it does you no good. Plus when fuel droplets hit the metal surfaces, the cooler the metal is, the longer it takes to vaporize that fuel. Only fuel vapor is flammable, not liquid.
